BASIC POSITION FUNCTION:

Under general supervision, the SAMPLE RECEIVING TECHNICIAN position receives samples and assures

that they are correctly identified, preserved and submitted for proper analysis, documents, tracks and

stores samples

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The role of SAMPLE RECEIVING TECHNICIAN, at a minimum, is responsible for:

1. Receives samples from clients and verifies them against the chain of custody document to ensure

that the sample I.D.’s, preservatives, sampling dates, requested analysis and other information are

consistent.

2. Records projects in Lab Job Log-in book. Fills out Sample Receiving Protocol forms and other

necessary documents.

3. Logs lab jobs into the computer LIMS system. Notifies appropriate department supervisor when

samples could exceed holding times or are of a hazardous nature.

4. Prepares and ships subcontracted work to other labs.

5. Receives supply shipments and notifies appropriate personnel.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

The duties of the SAMPLE RECEIVING TECHNICIAN include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Prints worksheets and labels for lab jobs. Submits paperwork to Operations Manager for review.

2. Labels samples and stores them in the appropriate refrigerator. Assists analysts with locating

samples when necessary.

3. Assists clients regarding sample container determination, correct sample volume, preservation and

other related customer questions or concerns.

4. Prepares sample containers, preservatives, labels, etc. for delivery to clients.

5. Keeps inventory of sample receiving supplies.

6. Keeps receiving area clean and orderly.

7. Performs other duties as necessary or requested by Senior Management.

8. Mandatory Overtime/Holiday work as assigned by your supervisor.

The SAMPLE RECEIVING TECHNICIAN position will have internal contact with their supervisor, peers and

various support personnel as well as external contact with clients.

At all times, the highest standards of professional etiquette and conduct are required as a representative of

CLS.

MEASUREMENT OF PERFORMANCE:

The position of SAMPLE RECEIVING TECHNICIAN is reviewed on an annual basis for performance and

financial consideration. Part of the measurement consideration will include:

1. Arrival and readiness to work at assigned time.

2. Accuracy in documenting and recording samples/jobs.

3. Timely production of assigned work.

4. Good communications and interpersonal skills with clients and peers.

5. Keeping Supervisor informed of inconsistencies that prevent assigned duties from being performed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and,

o Must be extremely accurate and exhibit good verbal and written communications skills.
