Light Duty Tow Operator College Oak Towing

Summary Operating out of various company sites, the Trainer provides initial and ongoing training, guidance, and support to new and existing drivers/technicians who provide roadside assistance as well as operate tow truck to move motor vehicles damaged by accident, stalled, or ticketed by police for traffic violation by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provides training to all Light Duty Tow Drivers

Conducts regular training updates/meetings with all Light Duty Tow Drivers.

Receives calls and is dispatched to location by radio or telephone.

Responds to calls in a safe and timely manner.

Communicates with dispatch in a professional manner informing of status and providing an accurate ETA.

Safely perform emergency road service including the following:

Deliver fuel when needed;

Change damaged or flat tire;

Makes minor repairs to vehicles along highway, such as replacing spark plugs, batteries, and light bulbs, and connecting loose wires.

Gain entry to vehicles upon request of owner;

Transport disabled vehicles to proper destination;

Clear accident area of debris and perform clean-up.

Inspect assigned company vehicle for safety and required equipment. Complete and submit pre-shift inspection sheet prior to beginning duty each day.

Operate company vehicle in a safe manner while obeying all traffic laws and paying attention to all road conditions.

Maintain cleanliness of assigned company vehicles exterior and interior. Remove all trach from the vehicle at beginning and end of shift.

Maintain fuel tank at half full at all times. Check and maintain other fluid levels on vehicle to manufacturer standards and note quantities on pre-shift inspection sheet.

Attend safety meetings and training classes as scheduled. Follow all safety policies. Use provided safety equipment and clothing when required.

Arrive at work when scheduled and in uniform.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises Light Duty Tow Drivers and Battery Service Technicians during initial and intermittent training periods.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum of five years experience within the towing industry as a Tow Truck Operator; preferred one year experience as a either a trainer, supervisor, or manager.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration

Must maintain a current driver’s license appropriate for the weight and type of equipment to be operated, along with certifications from the AAA and CTTA.
