Sacramento County Department of Technology is seeking a Database and Report Developer to join the Applications Unit that supports the Department of Probation. This Analyst works closely with all members of the Business Analysis and Applications Development Teams as well as the end user customers. This position provides opportunities to contribute to the engineering of new systems and re-engineering of old ones. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining data collection and sharing processes
  • Developing SSRS reports and PowerBI Dashboards
  • Building stored procedures and views to support database interactions, e.g. by applications, services, reports and dashboards.
In conjunction with meeting the Minimum Qualifications listed in this job posting, the ideal candidate will have:

CRITICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server databases, SSIS, SSRS, and Power BIAbility to develop complex data extracts, applications, reports, dashboards, and ad-hoc queries by using SQL, PowerBI, SSRS, or SSIS.
  • Ability to research, troubleshoot, and resolve data issues.
  • Ability to work within the project team to complete system analysis and application design.
  • Ability to work closely with Business Analysts and customers to refine requirements and ensure data quality.
  • Ability to collaborate on the definition, development, and maintenance of standards and processes.
  • Must be proficient with T-SQL and development of stored procedures.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and automation in BI solutions and processes.
  • Ability to work effectively with System Administrators, Project Manager(s), Developers, Customers, and Management.
  • Ability to participate in a team development environment using JIRA.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Report writing experience with SSRS and PowerBI.

DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge of data integration, e.g. extract, transform, and load (ETL) process development/support.
  • Ability to develop and troubleshoot reports delivered with SSRS; requires good analytical skills.
  • Ability to develop and troubleshoot PowerBI Dashboards; requires good analytical skills.
  • Application Development Lifecycle knowledge and experience.
  • Knowledge of data transport protocols, e.g. SFTP, XML, and JDXDML.
  • Knowledge of documentation of system support information.
  • Basic understanding of networking principles.
  • Ability to analyze system resource usage and constraints.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and produce deliverables in a timely manner.
  • 4 years of experience with T-SQL, including stored procedure development
  • Experience with data access performance tuning, and database performance optimization.
  • Experience with Case Management data and/or Justice System data.

Minimum Qualifications


A Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other field closely related to the intent of the class.

AND
Three (3) years of full-time, paid technical and/or professional experience in one or more of the following fields of application development, business systems analysis, programming, and/or database administration/analysis.

Note: Technical and/or professional experience that demonstrates the ability to perform duties above the required three years of full-time experience in application development, business systems analysis, programming, and/or database administration/analysis may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis (2080 hours paid experience equal one year of education).
