Company Overview: HomeSimple is a rapidly growing residential property management startup currently managing over 50 single-family homes, with new properties being added each month. As we scale, we're looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis. This role is crucial in helping us streamline our accounting processes and ensure accurate financial management across our portfolio.

Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Accounting Specialist who will take ownership of our accounting operations. This role goes beyond basic bookkeeping—it involves managing the financial health of our properties, ensuring timely payments, and providing critical financial insights to our COO. The ideal candidate is someone who can work independently, handle multiple tasks efficiently, and bring a proactive approach to managing our accounting needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Invoice Management: Collect and process invoices from vendors, ensuring timely and accurate payments.

Vendor Setup: Obtain direct deposit information and set up new vendors within our property management software, Buildium.

Recurring Payments: Input management fees and other regular payments into our software, ensuring everything is up to date.

Financial Organization: Maintain organized records of all invoices and financial documents within our system.

Charge Monitoring: Create and monitor recurring charges, ensuring all entries are accurate and timely.

Owner Disbursements: Calculate monthly funds due to property owners, compiling this information into a clear, organized spreadsheet for our COO to distribute.

Miscellaneous Payments: Handle additional payments on behalf of owners, such as HOA fees, solar leases, property taxes, and mortgages.

Owner Statements: Prepare and send out monthly owner statements, reviewing them for accuracy and addressing any discrepancies.

Customer Support: Respond to accounting-related inquiries from owners, tenants, and vendors, providing clear and timely resolutions.

Accounting Oversight: Manage the overall accounting functions for our property portfolio, ensuring all financial activities are compliant and accurately recorded.

Process Improvement and Standardization: In addition to the tasks listed above, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing standard practices and processes for our accounting procedures. Your expertise will help us create a more streamlined, efficient, and scalable accounting system as our company continues to grow.

Compensation:

Negotiable - $50 hourly rate or monthly retainer

Requirements:

-A reliable computer and internet connection.

-Residency in the San Diego area, with availability for weekly in-person meetings with our COO for a 60-minute recap.

-Minimum of 2 years’ experience in property management accounting or a related field.

-Proficiency with Buildium or similar property management software is preferred.
