Job Summary

Salary: 35-40-hour work week. Adult Education hourly schedule.

Prepare students for careers in the Construction/Building Trades industry

Provide technical instruction relevant to the actual work environment using the prescribed

course and curriculum, exercise methods of retention of students.

Responsible for Construction/Building installations from the start to completion of projects.

Surveys and experience in building layout using survey equipment to establish basic building and critical building points including corners, offsets, and elevations.

Performs minor excavations and sets forms for footings, foundations, and slabs

Lays out and ties rebar for slab and footing reinforcement

Identifies and lays out hold-downs, building anchors, and special hardware as required by plans

Pours and finishes concrete

Demonstrates floor plan layout and correctly snaps wall lines

Instruct plate, detail and basic framing for wood frame construction

Instruct how to lay out track for metal stud construction for tenant improvement work

Able to instruct tape and mud applications correctly

Prepare students in Installs of windows and doors of different types

Teach how to choose and install a variety of insulations products correctly

Instruction in Installs and repairs roofing of different types, including flashings and gutters Understands basic plumbing systems and applications

Discusses basic mechanics in the construction industry today

Teach electrical applications of various types

Able to Demonstrate finish carpentry work and electrical, plumbing, and painting skills

Supervise and instruct builds and repairs of masonry walls

Supervise and instruct builds and repairs wood and chain link fencing

Order supplies and keep records and accounts, and determine production schedules and

worker-time requirements to ensure timely project completion.

Estimate costs and requisition supplies and equipment to ensure efficient operation.

Requirements / Qualifications

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

- Knowledge of Installing drywall on both wood framing and metal stud work

- Knowledge of spray texture of various styles

- Knowledge and repairs in plumbing fixtures

- Have knowledge of basic electrical for commercial and residential use

- Experience operating heavy machinery i.e. tractors, bobcats, excavators, etc.

- knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and have the ability to work with various types of audio visual equipment and software.

- Good working knowledge of maintaining student records and dealing with sensitive information.

- Must have 3-5 years or more of related job experience work experience in the area of Construction/Building Trades including field experience.

- Must be able to attain a CTE Designated Subject Credential.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

- May be standing and moving throughout jails and County facilities, jails, within the County of San Diego for prolonged periods of time.

- The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting up to 60lb, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 90% walking, and 5% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.

- May be required to work outside regular scheduled hours and at various locations.
