Join Our Team as a Guest Service Associate at HI USA San Diego Hostel!   

    

Would you love to interact with travelers from all around the world and welcome them to your city? Join Hostelling International USA at our vibrant downtown San Diego hostel. We are currently accepting applications for a part time Guest Service Associate who will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming atmosphere while ensuring the reception desk runs smoothly, efficiently, and in accordance with hostel policy.

    

Position Details:   

    

Pay: $18.30-18.67 per hour

Shifts: Weekdays 3-11 pm, Weekends 6:45am-3pm or 11:30am-8am

Type: Part Time, approximately 24 hours/week

Responsibilities:   

    

- Welcome, register, and orient guests with cultural sensitivity and address language barriers.

- Manage reservations via phone, email, and online platforms efficiently and warmly.

- Conduct informative hostel tours.

- Solicit and manage guest feedback to enhance their experience.

- Ensure hostel security, including guests' and property safety, adhering to procedures.

- Maintain accurate shift reports, logs, and daily paperwork, including financial transactions.

- Perform various tasks such as laundry, cleaning, bookkeeping, and food preparation.

- Promote HI USA, local area attractions, and hostel facilities in person, by phone, and via email.

- Promote the mission of HI USA: “To help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people, through hostelling”

- Uphold a positive representation of HI USA to guests, callers, and local authorities.

- Complete additional tasks or projects assigned by hostel management.

Skills/Qualifications:   

- High school diploma or GED 

- Customer service experience, excellent communication skills and ability to handle cash accurately 

- Enjoy working with the public; able to calmly and professionally handle conflicts, guest issues, or emergencies 

- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and work independently or as part of a team 

- Computer literacy (WINXP, MS Word, Excel, Outlook) 

- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

- Preferred: Hostelling experience, and the ability to speak a second language

- Preferred: First aid and CPR certification (training can be provided)    

Physical Requirements:

- Regularly sit, use hands and arms

- Frequently stand, walk, talk, hear

- Occasionally climb, balance, lift/move up to 50 pounds

- Vision: close, peripheral, color, depth perception, adjust focus

- Moderate noise level
