Job Title: Izakaya Restaurant Manager

Location: Cherry Fish, Pacific Beach, CA

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $30 - $35 per hour based on experience

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Restaurant Manager to lead our front-of-house operations and maintain the high standards of our brand.

Position Summary:

The Restaurant Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of daily operations within the izakaya. This role requires strong leadership, a deep understanding of Japanese cuisine and hospitality, and the ability to create a warm and welcoming dining environment. You will supervise and train staff, manage guest relations, ensure operational excellence, and uphold the ethos of fine dining service with izakaya charm.

Key Responsibilities:

Guest Experience & Service Quality

Deliver and maintain exceptional service standards rooted in omotenashi (Japanese hospitality).

Manage and resolve guest concerns professionally and promptly.

Maintain a strong and approachable presence on the floor to engage with guests and elevate the dining experience.

Team Leadership & Staff Management

Recruit, onboard, and train front-of-house staff, including servers, hosts, and bartenders.

Create and manage staff schedules to optimize coverage and labor efficiency.

Cultivate a respectful, team-oriented environment that supports growth and accountability.

Operational Oversight

Oversee all front-of-house operations including cleanliness, ambiance, pacing, and service flow.

Collaborate with the back-of-house team to ensure seamless coordination and service.

Enforce compliance with health and safety standards, including sanitation and COVID-related protocols (if applicable).

Inventory & Cost Control

Manage inventory of beverages, supplies, and service tools.

Monitor labor and operational costs to meet profitability goals.

Collaborate with the bar team on sake, wine, whisky, and cocktail program execution.

Administrative & Reporting

Manage reservations and VIP guest experiences using platforms like OpenTable or Resy.

Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and performance tracking.

Prepare and present reports on sales, team performance, and guest feedback.

Qualifications:

2+ years of restaurant management experience in fine dining or upscale concepts (Japanese or izakaya experience strongly preferred).

Knowledge of Japanese cuisine, beverage service, and izakaya-style hospitality.

Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.

Familiarity with POS systems, reservation management tools, and basic financial oversight.

Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Food Handler and Responsible Beverage Service certifications (or willingness to obtain).

Compensation & Benefits:

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour based on experience
