Alpine Acres Sanctuary Farm is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal sanctuary on 20 acres, home to nearly 200 rescued animals across 32 species and 80 breeds.
We're seeking a skilled, hands-on maintenance person and ranch hand who thrives on variety and problem-solving. This position combines facilities maintenance, animal care support if needed, and land management across our 20-acre sanctuary.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Fence and shelter repair and maintenance across multiple pastures and species habitats
- Irrigation system repair and maintenance
- Pond maintenance
- Tractor operation for pathway and pasture maintenance
- Trailer driving for occasional animal transport or dump trailer operation
- Pasture and stall cleaning/maintenance
- Equipment and facility repairs (gates, shelters, fencing, irrigation)
- Supporting animal keepers with feeding, watering, and animal care if needed
- General property upkeep and grounds maintenance
What We're Looking For:
- Experience with fence repair, basic carpentry, and equipment maintenance
- Irrigation system knowledge and repair experience
- Comfortable operating tractors and towing/driving trailers
- Physically fit - able to lift 80+ lbs regularly and work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Self-starter who can identify and prioritize maintenance needs
- Team player who communicates well and follows direction
- Reliable, hard-working, and genuinely cares about animal welfare
- Comfortable interacting professionally with sanctuary visitors
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
What Makes This Role Special:
No two days are the same at Alpine Acres. You'll work with everything from common farm animals to more exotic rescues including zebras, bison, and camels. Your work directly impacts the wellbeing of nearly 200 animals who depend on safe, well-maintained habitats.
Requirements:
- Must be able to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and dirt
- Physical stamina for extended periods of manual labor
- Weekend availability (one weekend day required)
- Valid driver's license
