Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Trial Technician must ensure the seamless presentation of evidence and exhibits during courtroom proceedings. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in high-pressure environments, enjoys working with cutting-edge technology, and excels at both technical and administrative support.

Working closely with attorneys, paralegals, and legal teams, the role will require preparing trial exhibits, operating courtroom presentation equipment, and providing technical expertise throughout the trial process. This role involves in-person support at courtrooms across California, with occasional travel nationwide. Lexitas Legal is looking for someone with a passion for technology, a strong understanding of trial workflows, and who can contribute to high-stake cases.

Essential Responsibilities

-Operate trial presentation software (e.g., TrialDirector, OnCue, PowerPoint) to display exhibits, videos, and other evidence in real-time during court proceedings.

-Set up, test, and manage A/V equipment, including monitors, projectors, microphones, and other technical gear to ensure seamless courtroom presentations.

-Collaborate with attorneys and legal teams to prepare, organize, and finalize trial exhibits and presentations.

-Troubleshoot technical issues with software and equipment before and during trials, providing immediate solutions under tight deadlines.

-Convert, edit, and prepare documents, images, and videos for trial use, ensuring all materials are courtroom-ready.

-Act as a liaison between legal teams, court staff, and external vendors to coordinate trial logistics.

-Travel locally and occasionally nationwide to provide on-site technical and presentation support during trials.

-Maintain professionalism, discretion, and a client-focused approach in high-pressure courtroom environments.

-Work closely with scheduling and production staff throughout all stages of the trial lifecycle.

-Handle scheduling, travel arrangements, and reimbursements; maintain trial calendars and deadlines for multiple cases.

-Create and manage client billing, accounting for technical time and equipment usage.

Additional Duties and Qualifications

-Technical Expertise: Proficient in trial presentation software such as TrialDirector, OnCue, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office Suite.

-Problem Solving: Skilled in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues under time-sensitive conditions.

-Multitasking: Manage and prioritize multiple tasks, often under tight deadlines.

-Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail when organizing and handling evidence or trial materials.

-Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with attorneys, court staff, and other stakeholders.

-Professionalism: Maintain a professional demeanor and discretion when handling sensitive legal matters.

-Adaptability: Quick thinking and the ability to adapt to unexpected technical challenges in high-pressure environments.

-Creativity: Creative approaches to improving courtroom presentation strategies.

-Availability: Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, during trial periods.

-Language: Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from internal and external customers whose first language is English.

-Travel Readiness: Ability to travel locally and occasionally statewide and nationwide to support trials.

Work Schedule

Full-time, Monday - Friday, 40-hour week, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. However, may require evening and weekend hours based on the needs of the department.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

-High school education or equivalent.

-Minimum of 1 year of experience in a trial technician, litigation support role, or IT help desk role, or a related technical field.

-Previous experience in a client-facing role is highly desirable, with a focus on professionalism and strong interpersonal skills.

Work Environment

-Ability to lift and carry trial equipment, including monitors, projectors, and other A/V gear, up to 50 pounds.

-Ability to set up and break down technical equipment in courtrooms, war rooms, and other trial-related environments.

-Extended periods of sitting or standing during trial sessions, often for several hours at a time.

-Ability to work in fast-paced environments with frequent shifts in focus and tasks.

-Occasional travel to and from trial locations, which may involve walking, driving, and carrying materials.

Travel Requirements

-Local Travel: Travel to courtrooms and trial locations within the San Diego area.

-Statewide and Nationwide Travel: Ability to travel to other parts of California and the U.S., for multiple weeks of trial.

-Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for local travel.
