HVAC Service Technician

Position Summary:

The HVAC Service Technician (Commercial) is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of various commercial HVAC equipment. This role involves working independently or as part of a team to ensure that our clients’ mechanical systems are operating at peak performance, delivering optimal comfort and efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess advanced technical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service. Working area: San Diego, Inland Valley, Riverside and Orange County.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repair:

Diagnose, service, and repair a wide range of commercial HVAC equipment including boilers, chillers, computer and data room units (CRAC/CRAH), water source heat pumps, cooling towers, rooftop/packaged units, coils, compressors, pumps, air handlers, heating equipment, fan coils, heat exchangers, split systems, and VRF systems.

Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure systems are operating efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards and local codes.

System Assessments & Troubleshooting:

Utilize diagnostic tools, gauges, and meters to identify equipment malfunctions, refrigerant leaks, electrical issues, and airflow problems.

Perform root-cause analysis on complex mechanical and electrical HVAC challenges, recommending cost-effective and sustainable solutions.

Documentation & Communication:

Prepare detailed service reports, documenting work performed, parts used, and equipment condition.

Communicate effectively with customers, project managers, and internal support teams regarding job status, recommended repairs, and service outcomes.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED required;

Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in commercial HVAC service, maintenance, and repair.

Technical Skills:

Proficient in diagnosing and repairing complex HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, VRF systems, and computerized data center cooling units.

Strong understanding of electrical wiring, controls, and refrigeration cycles.

Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) and energy management controls is a plus.

Soft Skills:

Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical clients.

Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and work in various indoor/outdoor environments.

Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying temperatures.

Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
