Our Stone/Granite Shop fabricates custom stone and granite for residential and commercial projects.
The primary purpose of this position is to move and organize slabs with forklift to stage machines with material ready for production, receive and inspect all material being delivered, assist with unloading the cut pieces off the tables, labeling each piece with job information and moving leftover remnant slabs in the slab yard using inventory organization.
PRIMARY DUTIES include but not limited to:
Working daily as 2-man team to receive slabs, handle, move, stage and off/load stone slab material keeping our RoboSaw and Bridge Saw in production.
Constantly reviewing the fabrication schedule to know what material needs to get ready to cut on the machines and use the boom forklift to transport material and stage them accordingly on the A-Frame assigned for each machine (the Baca RoboSaw and Bridge Saw)
Receiving Material / Unload delivery trucks:
o Using industry knowledge and experience with stone slabs, help inspect material before each slab is taken off the truck for obvious defects (cracks, broken pieces, color problems, or other types of defects);
o Assist with reviewing and matching the material with OUR paperwork and the delivery paperwork to ensure that all three elements match and resolve immediately and discrepancies before signing;
o Using industry knowledge and experience carefully operate the boom forklift to unload the material off the delivery truck and transport material in an organized fashion in the slab yard
o Document material location and provide the information for inventory
Unload the RoboSaw tables with the cut materials (with minimal waiting time) – This task includes physically moving stone pieces off the tables and onto the rolling carts or for large remnants use of forklift:
o Move JOB material off table and onto cart to transport to next fabrication station
o Move remaining REMNANT material off table accurately labeling all pieces (job name, job number, date, color of material, etc.) as well as maintaining accurate inventory of measurements and inventory location in slab yard.
o Accurately label each and every piece of material with the required information (job name, job number, number of pieces, etc.)
Other prep duties may include hosing off the slabs
Work together with other material handler to maintain the slab & remnant yard to ensure safe positioning of slab and remnant material and dispose of waste material.
Understand the paperwork process that accompanies receiving and returning material as well as inventory.
Assist to ensure forklift inspections are conducted daily:
o Perform daily forklift inspections and completing the required forms
o Perform minor regular maintenance of the forklift and logging the activity
o Change the propane tanks when necessary and ensuring enough quantity is readily available to change out (never have all empty propane tanks and can’t operate the forklift – preplan to ensure if we need to schedule fill service that happens before run out)
o Coordinating mechanical repairs of the forklift
Assist purchasing department put supplies away
Other stone shop and/or forklift operation assignments as assigned
RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:
Moving and maneuvering stone slabs is dangerous. Stone Slabs weigh 700 lbs up to 1500 lbs per slab. The forklift operator is responsible not only for the material but more importantly human safety and will be held accountable including but not limited to:
SAFE Operations of the forklift adhering to all forklift safety features and safe operations.
Provide CLEAR & SAFE communication with the material spotter.
Communicate effectively and safely with the delivery drivers.
Wear applicable PPE and enforce PPE upon anyone spotting the material.
Apply industry knowledge to safely maneuver stone slabs to prevent material damage, property damage and injuries.
Adhere to the Company’s certification and training programs.
Being aware of delivery trucks coming and going in the slab yard as well as our installation trucks coming and going.
REQUIREMENTS (not limited to):
Preferred two years with forklift operations and material handling preferably with operating a boom forklift
Preferred experience in stone industry necessary for educated inspection of material and understanding stone handling (by forklift, by spotting slabs, and by physically moving stone pieces)
Must have understanding of the hazards working with heavy material, adhering to all safety standards and taking extreme caution
Able to perform and complete tasks promptly, accurately and with little supervision
Must be completely proactive with staying ahead of production
Work effectively individually and as well as work effectively as a team
Must demonstrate being reliable and dependable
Must be accountable for job duties, responsibilities to ensure minimal errors
Must demonstrate extreme caution and with the utmost care when handling material to prevent injuries to self and others as well as prevent material damage
Focus and pay close attention to performing duties safely at all times
Must be able to communicate effectively is essential for safety (speaking, hearing, comprehending)
Must maintain forklift certification
ABOUT THIS POSITION:
This is not just a forklift position! Physical requirements of lifting and moving stone material is also required of this position.
Monday thru Friday 6:30 am to 3:00 pm with mandatory daily overtime when required paid at OT rate. Sometimes scheduled start at 5 am as needed.
Occasional mandatory Saturdays as scheduled.
Full-time, direct hire, non-exempt.

Frequent: exposure to dust; Frequent: able to wear applicable safety gear at all times while performing work including but not limited to: safety-toed work boots, long pants, safety glasses, hard hat, cut level gloves, and particulate respirator when working in the stone shop and with dust, etc.
This position is exposed to silica hazard and requires compliance with CalOsha respiratory protection standards – daily use of respirators are required!
