MARYMOUNT OF SANTA BARBARA POSITION PROFILE
POSITION TITLE: Math & Science Teacher (Grades 6-8)
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt/10 Month Contract
REPORTS TO: Middle School Division Head
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the Marymount mission
Required-Bachelors Degree and State of California Teaching Certificate/Preferred-Masters Degree and Credential in secondary education for Math and/or Science
3-5 years experience teaching in the Middle or High School level with experience teaching Geometry prefered
Flexibility in working across grade levels
Demonstrated knowledge of subject area and a strong background in curriculum and
instruction, classroom management, and assessment
Experience with integrating curriculum across disciplines while using an essential question
Conversant in 21st century education practices
Experience teaching with commonly available educational software with proficiency in Google Suite and Google Apps for Education preferred
Experience with a variety of technology in the classroom such as computers (Mac), digital projectors, document cameras, Interactive Whiteboards, and iPads
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
Strong public speaking skills
Ability to interact with students, parents, faculty and staff
Flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the divisions on faculty committees
Strong ability to work collegially with the Division faculty and support team
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Design instruction that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving through discovery and evaluation while making content relevant to students lives today
Create hands-on project based learning experiences that incorporate technology and
independent research
Collaborate with colleagues to integrate curriculum across disciplines
Work collaboratively with Associate Head of School, Divisional leadership, Curriculum Coordinators, and faculty, to develop interdisciplinary and cross curricular projects
Plan field trips for students to places in the community that correspond with curricular goals
Design and lead an elective twice a week
Serve as Middle School grade level Advisor and perform duties associated with being a middle school advisor including participation in class trips, parent teacher conferences, etc.
Participate in regular Middle School duties as assigned (recess, lunch, drop-off, pick-up and assemblies etc.)
Participate in the life of the school through service projects, assemblies, community garden, admissions events, mission related professional development and advancement events.
Seek and take part in professional development to enhance professional knowledge and educational training.
Actively participate in weekly faculty development meetings
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works in school environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
Be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.
Willing to work some evening and weekends for school related events or projects
