An orthodontic lab technician works to fabricate, repair, size, and replace removable appliances such as dentures or retainers. As an orthodontic lab technician, your duties include working with materials such as acrylic or metal. You may pour materials into molds, print 3D models, etc. to achieve the required shape of appliances. In some cases, you may practice wire bending to get the desired shape for the products you create. Your responsibilities may also include cleaning, maintaining, and repairing lab equipment.
JOB DUTIES may include but not limited to:
Fabricate custom removable and fixed appliances
Work on computer to set up files for printing
Create Essex (clear retainers) retainers from printed models
Create in-house aligners from printed model sequence
Cutting plastic to create retainers/ aligners
Organize printing process
Printing models using our 3D printer
Assist in the evaluation of fit and aesthetics as needed
Pour impressions intended for retainers mouthguards and study models
Maintain a neat and orderly office and lab area where you function and help others when necessary
Familiarize yourself with clinical assistant duties and responsibilities and substitute when necessary
Handle patient information in compliance with legal requirements, including HIPAA regulations
Ship and receive all inside & outside lab cases
Review and double-double check the following week’s deliveries
Maintain open communication with the Doctor(s), Office Manager, outside lab and other agencies that we work with
Monitor inventory of required and necessary laboratory materials, instruments and equipment
Be knowledgeable about all equipment, its maintenance and servicing needs
Maintain equipment in lab area and perform overall maintenance of dental equipment
Develop and maintain a daily and weekly maintenance schedule
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Outgoing, energetic, and fun personality a must
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Detail oriented
Organized
X-ray certification preferred, but willing to train the right fit
On the job training provided but we do require experience in either Orthodontic Lab or General.
Experience making Plastic & Metal appliances.
