The Personal Care Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and safety of program participants by providing personal care, medication administration, and health-related support. This position promotes a positive and inclusive environment while maintaining high standards of care, safety, and compliance with health regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
-Personal care support: Assist participants with hygiene care, including toileting, diaper changes, feeding assistance, transfers, and medication administration.
-Health and safety compliance: Maintain appropriate health, safety, and licensing standards, reporting hazards or concerns to the Program Manager or Specialist.
-First aid and emergency response: Provide and document first aid as needed, respond to participant injuries, and coordinate emergency care when necessary.
-Participant well-being: Stay informed about participant healthcare plans, precautions, and interventions, ensuring their needs are met with dignity and respect.
-Training and support: Train new staff in safe toileting assistance, lift equipment use, and best practices in personal care, offering refresher training as needed.
-Adaptive feeding assistance: Support participants with eating, including tube feeding and other medication interventions as assigned.
-Collaboration and communication: Work closely with staff, families, and care providers to ensure seamless communication regarding participant health, illness, or injuries.
-Promoting independence: Encourage participants to engage in activities that foster self-awareness, independence, and personal growth.
Program development and team support: Contribute to program improvement by identifying training needs, fostering team morale, and supporting the mission of Alpha Resource Center of Santa Barbara.
-Additional responsibilities: Complete special projects, assist with scheduling, and perform other duties as assigned by the Case Manager.
Qualifications
-Strong organizational skills with the ability to adapt to diverse individuals and situations
-Personal vehicle with current insurance
-Certified in First Aid, CPR, seizure management, and universal precautions
-Fingerprint clearance (will be provided at no cost)
-Medical clearance, including a negative TB test (will be provided at no cost)
