Job Title: Driver/Production Processor

Reports to: Production Manager

Status: Non-Exempt

Hours: Full-time / 40 Hours

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 Service all stores which includes donation and waste pick-up and delivery.

 Ability to complete an average of 10 stops per hour

 Pick-up donations and load in truck according to daily route. Communicate with donors on items denied and report immediately to your Supervisor

 Dispose waste at transfer station.

 Observe Route updates and notes on Pickup Listing.

 Report denials, route changes, and updates to the office.

 Ensure truck, containers, and trash volume is within standards.

 Ability to properly operate baler, compressor and other hydraulic equipment within acceptable safety standards

 Participate in all required safety trainings

 Ability to pass and maintain fork lift certification if required by Management

 Complete truck maintenance checks, schedule maintenance and maintain cleanliness of truck to positively represent organization in the community.

 Communicate customer concerns, safety and security issues, accidents, and general concerns to management.

 Maintain open communication with Supervisor and route coordinator. Answer and return calls as soon as safe to do so

 Assist in production as needed to improve and increase flow to meet daily quotas

 Ability to be flexible and available for temporary or permanent assignment to another Alpha store and/or transfer to another position as required by management.

 Ability to work varied hours/days and overtime as business dictates.

 Ensure a high level of customer service is maintained.

 Maintain professional conduct while engaging internal and external customers and donors.

 Promote Alpha Resource Center Mission Statement.

 Assigned work equipment such as cell phones are to be used for work purposes only and left at the worksite at the end of shift. Company cell phones are not to be used for streaming data unless prior permission is granted by your direct Supervisor

 Adhere to company and store policies, procedures and practices, including loss prevention, and propose changes when necessary.

 Maintain knowledge of donation, store pricing, and sales policies.

 Adhere to driving and safety laws and policies and internal GPS standards and expectations. Drivers are monitored for observing speed limits; aggressive acceleration; prolonged and excessive stops, driving out of the route area; stopping only at designated addresses; following the fastest route map. Any driving infraction will result in disciplinary actions up to and including termination.

 Resolve customer/donor inquiries and concerns.

 Report safety and security issues, personnel issues, accidents and concerns.

 Attend and participate in trainings and seminars in order to remain competitive.

 Continually grow and develop skills and knowledge in order to be innovative.

 Drivers must always wear company issued shirts, aprons, name tags, etc. while interfacing with the public.

None

HOURS OF WORK

40 hours per week. Work hours will be fixed per the demands of the department. Regular attendance, punctuality and diligent work performance are expected and required.

Attendance and participation at staff meetings, trainings and seminars is expected.

Eligible to work in the United States

Valid California Driver’s License and eligible for insurance under the company policy.

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English

Ability to drive and properly and safely operate a large vehicle, read maps, and organize route in a timely manner.

Able to repeatedly lift heavy loads up to 50 pounds.

Able to continuously sit, stand and walk.

Able to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently.

Ability to work independently without supervision while maintaining a high level of organization.

Ability to embrace and implement communication best practices.

Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to do the job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or a combination of education and experience demonstrating ability to perform essential duties is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

The ability to read, write and speak English clearly is mandatory. Ability to read and speak Spanish is desirable but not required. The ability to communicate information to other employees, customers and donors as well as management in a clear and concise manner is essential.

REASONING ABILITY

Employee is able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions, either written, oral, or diagram form. Must possess the ability to deal with problems involving several variables in any standardized situation. Must be able to prioritize tasks and activities in a manner consistent with direction from supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to continuously stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. Employee must be able to bend, squat, climb stairs, and safely lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. unassisted continuously throughout the day. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel equipment, paper, or files. The employee must be able to operate vehicles safely. The employee is required to stand, walk, reach and lift repeatedly with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

This position requires the manual dexterity and adequate vision to safely operate a motor vehicle, load and unload donations, and operate required equipment, adequate hearing and verbal communication skills to conduct conversations (in person or on the telephone) and interact with staff and others to perform duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment would be generally described as a retail facility with an office setting adjacent to the primary work area. The position also requires a large amount of time in a vehicle driving to donor destinations and back to the retail production facility. The ability to move between these areas is required in the execution of the employee’s functional activities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and the illumination of the work area is primarily with fluorescent artificial lighting, or when in a vehicle the illumination is primarily natural lighting.
