Program: Toddler, Preschool
JOB TITLE: Classroom Aide
LOCATION: All
REPORTS TO: ECE Program Coach, Site Supervisor, Executive Director
LEVEL: Non-Exempt, Hourly Position, Part-time preferred, with the ability for full-time
hours
SALARY: DOE, $14.25 hourly
POSITION SUMMARY: Assists a Teacher or Associate Teacher in providing for the care and education of a group of children enrolled at Storyteller Childrens Center.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Minimum of six (6) units in Early Childhood Education units (ECE) preferred.
Experience as a Classroom Aide or volunteer in a preschool educational program
preferred.

Ability to express and demonstrate appropriate early childhood principles and practices.
Must be sensitive to the needs of low-income families and cultural differences.
Ability to maintain a pleasant and responsive attitude toward children, parents, and staff.
Ability to accurately complete written reports and required documentation.
Fluency in speaking and writing Spanish desirable.
Ability to meet the requirements of fingerprint clearance through the DOJ; pass and
update as required, a general physical exam, TB skin test, and CPR/First Aid
certification.
POSITION CHARACTERISTICS:
Assists teachers in carrying out planning and curriculum, and activities for children in the
program.
Assists children with toileting and/or feeding if necessary.
Assists with serving breakfast. Sets up lunch and cleans up as required.
Attends parent meetings and home visits when requested.
Assists in keeping classrooms clean and orderly. Maintains a classroom environment
that is consistent with child development standards and program performance
standards.
Maintains a physically safe environment. Reports all unsafe conditions and hazardous
materials to the Enrollment Specialist,Site Supervisor, ECE Program Coach or Executive
Director.
Works with individual children or groups of children on assigned projects or activities.
Assists with children during lunch, on playgrounds and on field trips as assigned but not
without supervision.
Attends all work-related events including in-service training and meetings as assigned. Assist with the written documentation relating to a childs development, including
anecdotal records.
Assumes responsibility for maintenance of required records.
Maintains confidentiality of records and information on families.
Provides daily on-going communication with parents regarding their childs development.
Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with parents/guardians and
program staff. Must be able to maintain good working relationships with other program
staff.
Performs other comparable related duties as required.
Stays current with all educational requirements (Permit), if required.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to walk,
and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit, use hands to finger,
handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The
the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities
required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth
perception and ability to adjust focus.
This position floats between classrooms and sites.
