Hospice of Santa Barbara, Inc., the second oldest Hospice in the United States, is a unique and innovative organization that serves several hundred children and adults monthly who are either impacted by a life-threatening illness or grieving the loss of a loved one. All of our services are provided free of charge. We receive no support from government or insurance agencies, and are dependent on the support of the community for all we do. ABOUT THE POSITION:

As Volunteer Services Manager for Hospice of Santa Barbara, your primary responsibility will be to oversee the Volunteer Services department, manage the team of HSB volunteers, and eleven volunteer programs. You will work in close collaboration with the Patient Care Services team to match patients and volunteers to ensure high quality care and service to patients and their families. Your responsibilities will also include coordinating and teaching a 6-week, volunteer training curriculum. This is a full-time position. Some of your essential duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

Responsible for coordinating, planning and supervising the various Volunteer Services Programs: Patient Care Volunteers, NODA (No One Dies Alone) in partnership with VNA Health, Bereavement Volunteers, Life Reminiscence, Pet Therapy, Advance Care Planning Volunteers, Complementary Therapy, Support Group Co-facilitators, Beloved Bear, and Administrative & Event Volunteers.

Recruit, train, orient, and on-board volunteers; receive applications, screen, and interview potential volunteers.

Coordinate, facilitate and teach in a 6-week long volunteer training.

Provide ongoing education, training and support for volunteers.

Facilitate monthly, Patient Care Volunteer support meetings, & quarterly ACP Volunteer Meetings.

Participate in all 90 Day Care Plan Meetings.

Monitor and oversee HSB procedures for accurate record-keeping, including all volunteer personnel files and program data collection.

Assign Patient Care Volunteers to patients on the basis of the patients Plan of Care, patient’s needs and the volunteers’ interest and skills, in collaboration with Care Managers.

Coordinate volunteer appreciation events – Volunteer Holiday Party and Volunteer Appreciation Party.

Monitor volunteer satisfaction.

Participate in community outreach events and present with Patient Care Services team in order to educate community on Patient Care Services.

Supervise Volunteer Services Coordinator.

Oversee and monitor actual expenses against budgeted year to date budget.

Create monthly Newsletter/update for Patient Care and ACP Volunteers.

Coordinate meal deliveries to food insecure patients/families.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Must have at least two years previous experience as a professional or volunteer in a healthcare, hospice, human services or similar agency

Must have at least three years previous experience in management

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to develop training material and conduct training

Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage concurrent projects

Must have the ability to relate professionally and positively, and work cooperatively with other employees and programs

Comfort with public speaking and teaching training materials

Commitment to the internal standard by which we uphold professionalism, further the agency’s mission, and work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team
