Summary of Job Details
The Assistant Director, High School Services (ADHSS) has functional and budgetary responsibility for the High School Outreach component of Admissions at the University of California, Santa Barbara which serves over 40,000 students annually. The ADHSS is responsible for the management and oversight of high school outreach programs, efforts that will help the campus mission to enroll a diverse and academically strong study body. The AD acts with a high degree of autonomy in program areas with major impact on the campus and is liaison to statewide constituencies including the UC Office of the President, Statewide outreach programs (Cal SOAP, AB540 Committees), and to the UCSB campus community including administrators, faculty, staff, and students. The Assistant Director has direct lead and evaluation responsibility for the following major campus programs: California and western-states high school services Campus-based high school outreach Electronic Outreach Campaigns and Virtual Advising (video chat) Program The Assistant Director oversees a comprehensive outreach plan to serve students attending California high schools and integrates these programs into UCSB efforts designed to improve the quality and efficiency of student services. As a member of the School Services Management Team, the ADHSS, assists in the development of marketing goals and set priorities for high school recruitment activities. This requires regular review of assigned program areas and adjustments in personnel and job responsibilities to meet these goals. The position requires experience and ability in developing new, innovative, and effective outreach services for prospective students. The ADHSS works closely with faculty and academic programs across the university and must incorporate work and management styles that are highly collaborative and supportive. The job requires initiative, problem solving, independence, and judgment, as well as effective verbal and written communication skills, and the capacity to organize and handle a wide range of responsibilities accurately and consistently. The Assistant Director must have detailed knowledge of University policy and procedures, UC and UCSB admissions issues, and UCSB programs and services. The ADHSS identifies priorities, monitors progress, and designates procedures for carrying out the University's high school student outreach plan. The job requires demonstrated analytic skills in short and long range planning, analysis, and evaluation of programs. The ADHSS must possess the ability to communicate complex admissions policies and procedures in a clear and concise manner. As the primary contact for issues related to high school outreach, the Assistant Director position requires extensive knowledge of university and campus policies and a high degree of initiative and professionalism. In addition to assuming responsibility for direction of high school Outreach Programs, the Assistant Director serves on the management team of the Office of Admissions, contributing to policy making decisions and incorporating statewide and campus goals into all programs
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
3-5 years admissions/recruitment experience
Prior supervisory experience
Ability to represent the university to K-12 school administrators, teachers, counselors and prospective UCSB students, their families and the community at the highest professional level.
Ability to relate to and work well with students from diverse backgrounds and their families.
Ability to manage work load, prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects under pressure of tight timelines.
Excellent public speaking skills, experience conducting workshops, and academic advising.
Special Conditions of Employment
Satisfactory criminal history background check
Must maintain a valid CA Driver’s license, a satisfactory DMV record and enrollment in the DMV Pull-Notice Program
Schedule: flexible hours to include evenings/weekends. Extensive overnight travel between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles & occasionally throughout the state.
