The Accounting Department is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Accountant with strong analytical, communication and technical skills.
This position works under the direction of the General Accounting Manager and will be responsible for most aspects of general ledger accounting. Emphasis is placed on fixed assets, cash, prepaids and liabilities. The position also works closely with a Retail Staff Accountant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Accounting:
Fixed Assets - complete all fixed asset related recording and reporting monthly. This includes analyzing Construction in Progress (CIP) account activity, deciding on appropriateness of account coding, recommending reclassification of account coding, preparation of monthly fixed asset reports for financial statement support, and preparation of monthly spending reports for the Executive Committee and others. Participate in capital budgeting activities.
Tax Returns – responsible for preparing and filing both California Property Tax and California Sales Tax returns. Running reports in our accounting software and populating and submitting the online tax returns.
Maintenance Work Orders – review coding of work order invoices, analyze work orders for possible capitalization or reclassification if needed. Meet regularly with the Maintenance Department to stay current on project status and provide direction as to best practices.
General Ledger - Provide timely GL account coding of AP invoices daily; reconcile various balance sheet accounts and provide backup support to the General Accounting Manager.
Retail – provide oversight of the Retail Point of Sale (POS) system, including software/hardware upgrades. Work alongside and mentor the Retail Staff Accountant and provide Retail staff direction as to best practices.
A bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in accounting or business is required; generally, at least 5 years’ accounting experience is expected for this position. High proficiency in Excel required. Prior experience with ERP systems is highly desirable. The hourly range is $38.29-$51.71 depending on experience.
