Miraloma Cooperative Nursery School is looking for a warm, loving and engaging Afternoon Teacher for our cooperative, play-based, child-centered preschool program. You will work collaboratively alongside other colleagues and parent volunteers to foster the development of children in the 2.9 - 6 year old range in a play-based learning environment. The Teacher supervises children in their play and looks for opportunities to engage with them and nurture their interests. You will help plan curriculum and age-appropriate daily activities, and ensure our classroom is well-run. This position reports to the Executive Director.

MIRALOMA VALUES AND PHILOSOPHY

We believe nursery school should provide children with a supportive environment in which to explore who they are and their relationships with others through play. Our main goal is to help children build a positive self‑image and form positive social relationships. At Miraloma, children can make choices about what, where and with whom to play. This allows them to learn about the result of one’s choices and build independence. We aim to meet the needs of each child and encourage their interests. By helping children develop self‑confidence, self-regulation, and problem solving, and conflict resolution skills, they will be ready to meet the academic and social challenges that lie ahead.

We strive to provide a loving, kind, inclusive and safe environment for children to learn. We believe that when teachers, families and children work together in a collaborative and compassionate environment, it serves as a model for our children to learn positive social behaviors, community engagement and responsibility, and respect for others.

ABOUT MIRALOMA COOPERATIVE NURSERY SCHOOL

Established in 1952, Miraloma Cooperative Preschool is one of San Francisco's oldest parent-owned, non-profit cooperative preschools and is a member of the San Francisco Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools. Parent participation and parent education are the foundations for our family-oriented atmosphere. Our member families maintain the building and grounds, work with our paid staff on the administration of the school and assist teachers in the classroom. We provide a developmentally appropriate, play-based learning, child-centered program. At our little red schoolhouse, children and families cultivate a lifelong love of learning as they develop new skills, knowledge, and friendships. Miraloma’s beautiful grounds allow children the freedom to conduct their play indoors and outdoors, and includes warm play spaces inside our red schoolhouse, a large sandbox, climbing structures, swings, music garden, edible garden, outdoor stage, indoor trapeze, and more.
