Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Museum Tour Leader gives 2-5 educational tours and hands-on programs per week for children and adults. Tours are scheduled between 9 am and 3 pm (most in the morning hours). This position is on an as-needed basis. In general, the Museum Tour Leader will work 6-15 hours per week during the school year. The Museum Tour Leader enhances the visitor experience through providing active, engaging tours.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under moderate supervision, set-up and present interactive programs and tours to school groups (primarily 1st- 4th grade) at the San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City. These programs address the themes of transportation, natural resources and immigration.
Use a variety of educational materials, resources and equipment during programs.
Provide instruction and minor supervision of chaperones running hands-on activities during the tours and programs.
Clean up after programs.
Present engaging general tours for youth and adult groups.
Working closely with staff and volunteers, provide a helpful environment for Museum visitors during tours and programs.
Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, some college preferred, and two years working experience, preferably with children. Public speaking, teaching or museum experience helpful. General knowledge of and/or interest in history of California and San Mateo County.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Requires a lot of time standing and walking and some bending. May include moving light furniture and program props. May require lifting objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
