If you are passionate about public education, want to pursue a career in public education or uplift low-income and marginalized youth across Oakland, the AmeriCorps Elev8 program at Safe Passages is the perfect opportunity for you. The ELEV8 AmeriCorps Program is focused on helping youth achieve academic success. AmeriCorps members in this program provide academic intervention services to a cohort of 5-10 underperforming youth, with the goal of raising student achievement and providing mentorship to students. Members can either push into and support classrooms during the day or support and run the school’s afterschool program depending on site placement and logistics.
Members are placed at one of the Safe Passages partner schools in Oakland or Emeryville, CA for a full academic year. Though we strongly consider member preferences/needs when it comes to site placement, no one is guaranteed a particular site position. Members are provided training and professional development to build necessary skills and meet OUSD qualifications for tutors in addition to direct support from Safe Passages administration and school site coordinators. Members are provided a modest living stipend and other benefits such as an end of service education award and a transportation stipend
