About the Position:
Aspire Education (https://aspireeducation.org/) is excited to partner with Downer Elementary school (1231 18th St, San Pablo, CA 94806). We're urgently looking for two 5th and 6th grade ELA and Math tutors to teach at Downer Elementary school.
The position would be for 4 days a week, Monday-Thursday from 3-4pm (except Wednesdays, which will be 1:30-2:30pm).
This will be a 24-week program, split into an 8 week program in the fall and two 8-week cycles in the spring. The fall program will run from October 7 through December 13 (skipping Thanksgiving week and the week of November 4); the spring cycles will run from January 13 through May 15, 2025 (skipping Presidents’ week recess and Spring Recess).
The tutor will work 1:1 with a group of no more than 5 students to provide homework support. The tutor should be mindful of the background the students come from and tutor in an engaging way that promotes student motivation. The tutor will collaborate with the team and program staff to provide high quality education for the elementary students.
Pay Range: $35-45/hour
Job Responsibilities:
-Provide homework support for elementary students in ELA and math.
-Teach and tutor a group of 5-10 students who are below level in literacy and math.
-Teach in an engaging and interactive way to promote student participation and acceleration.
-Be comfortable teaching multiple grade levels at once with varying learning styles.
-Monitor and keep track of student progress.
-Be able to adapt the teaching style as needed given the students' level and progress.
-Communicate with both Aspire staff and school staff regarding student participation, attendance, and progress.
-Help students grow their confidence and motivation to succeed.
-Record custom notes in a web-based system following each tutoring session.
-Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
-Experience tutoring students in K-6th grade (at least 1 year)
-BA or graduate degree in related field or bachelor’s in progress
-Experience teaching multiple grade level groups preferred
-Passion for literacy and math tutoring
-Interest in equity and social justice, especially as they relate to education
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a setting that may constantly change
-Flexibility and initiative
-Classroom management skills
-Exceptionally reliable and dependable
-Located in the Bay Area, CA with ability to travel to school site in San Pablo (Richmond)
