Private K-8th grade Academy for high functioning students with learning disabilities is in need for specialists teachers to join our team.
The following positions are needed, if you can do more than one, even better!
Days and times are flexible for the right teacher, but most positions are 1-2 days a week at 4-5 hours.
You must have experience with ADHD, high functioning Autism, and be flexible to learning differences. If you are rigid, expect to lecture, or discipline, this is not for you. Instead we need someone who can awaken creativity and connection with our students. Our students are very bright, and excel when presented with an idea, but allowed to "run with it."
Qualification:
College degree, teaching credential, or masters degree in advanced studies
Minimum 5 years working in a classroom
Background with ADHD, Autism, and learning differences
Extremely organized, advanced preparation of materials
Pay: $40-60 an hour DOE
Positions Available:
Librarian (2 days a week preferred): create a literary unit for 4 different grade levels, explore themes, authors, and create projects. You will be expected to have 4 different lessons planned for each day, and produce a long span project with each grade. Ex: explore Mo Willems stories, and have each child create a literary book, answering questions, drawing pictures, about 6 different stories.
Art: (1 day a week) create an art showcase for 4 different grade levels. Explore themes, artists, and create projects. You will be expected to have 4 different lessons planned for each day, and produce a long span project for each grade level, with an end of the year, art showcase for each child. Ex: explore the jungle, and draw, paint, jungle animals with a final diorama.
Science/Engineering (2 times a week): create a science and engineering unit for our 3 oldest classroom. Explore scientific themes, with extensive focus, and create, design science projects, that will become part of an ongoing portfolio to showcase for high school entrance applications into science program. Manage student portfolios over the years, as high quality cumulative work. Organize science fair.
Math/Technology: (2 times a week): make math fun! Can you come in and make math a game, a contest, a group event? Come develop a math program, that is not worksheets, but thinking, designing, creating, developing, analyzing! Design a program for our 3 oldest classrooms (4th-8th grade), where you initiate projects, that stimulate organizing, planning, and calculating, with the result a quality project. Design with graphs, presentations, make it hands on.
