Position Description:

One (1) Permanent-Exempt, Part Time (30 hours per week), School-Term Only (200 days/year) position. School-Term Only employees are hired for a specific work calendar and may not have an assignment during the school academic breaks. Exempt employees are considered "at will" and serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.This position is grant-funded and is funded on a yearly basis. Hours are subject to change after appointment dependent upon grant status.Under direct departmental supervision, performs duties of a Math Tutor.

Job Duties:

1. Tutor students enrolled in Liberal Arts Math (Math 70), Mathematical Analysis for Business (Math 75), Probability and Statistics with support (Math 80 and Math 80S), Precalculus Algebra with support (Math 90 and Math 90S), Precalculus and Trigonometry (Math 98), and Foundations of Data Science (Math 108) in both the in-person and online math labs.2. Attend and assist in Probability and Statistics with support (Math 80 and Math 80S), Precalculus Algebra with support (Math 90 and Math 90S) classes.3. Establish ongoing study groups and peer mentoring groups among students.4. Work collaboratively with program coordinators, counselors, and instructors.5. Perform outreach, scheduling, and other administrative tasks as assigned.6. Perform constant contact and follow-up with students via email, phone, and meetings.7. Participate in ongoing training and professional development to better serve students.8. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Successful completion of two (2) years of college (60 semester units/90 quarter units) PLUS paid experience working with young people.SPECIAL CONDITION: Adult Learning and Tutorial Math Skills (Provide instructional assistance and small group tutoring in math subjects; requires proficiency in assigned math subject, ability to work with people, and assist in math instruction for adult learners.)Note: College Work Study and Student Lab Aide experience with the District will be considered/ applied as qualifying experience per an agreement made between the District and SEIU. This agreement will allow District students to take advantage of employment opportunities.

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Ability to tutor and clearly communicate mathematics to a broadly diverse group of students at the levels of Liberal Arts Math (Math 70), Mathematical Analysis for Business (Math 75), Probability and Statistics with support (Math 80 and Math 80S), Precalculus Algebra with support (Math 90 and Math 90S), Precalculus and Trigonometry (Math 98), and Foundations of Data Science (Math 108).2. Experience tutoring students with widely varying mathematical backgrounds, skill levels, abilities, and disabilities.3. Sensitivity to and patience with students who struggle with mathematics and/or who have math anxiety as well as first-generation college students and students who have been educationally under-prepared.4. Success in college math courses at a level of Calculus I or higher.5. Experience working in a mathematics tutoring lab.6. Experience facilitating small group study sessions and a knowledge of study group methods.7. Experience working independently with initiative.8. Desire to be a team player and work collaboratively with instructors, counselors and program coordinators.9. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students from diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, sexual orientations, disabilities, and ethnic backgrounds.10. Ability to communicate effectively in English orally and in writing.11. Ability to communicate in a language, other than English, such as Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese or Tagalog.

Benefits:

New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013 will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund (RHCTF).Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full-year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas Day and New Years Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days off during spring break. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Years Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreement between the employee and supervisor. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the days designated as Spring Break will not be paid for these days off.
