TEACHING ASSISTANT
Position Status: Full-Time
Reports to: Lead Teacher and Head of School.
QUALIFICATIONS:
2+ years working with school-aged children
Bachelors degree (preferred)
Committed to academic excellence and culturally responsive teaching
Understands child growth, development, and social needs
Possesses strong communication and organizational skills
Open and motivated to work collaboratively
Responsible and enthusiastic
Exhibits a strong commitment to working in a diverse, multi-cultural community
Loves children/has experience with children (required)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Lead Teacher (LT):
Maintain classroom environment including setting up paints, watering plants, and preparing lesson materials.
Prepare for daily activities, including general clerical tasks.
Lead students in social-emotional activities in cross-grade groupings twice a month.
Instruct small and large groups of children, as needed.
Refer parents to Lead Teacher for communications.
In absence of Lead Teacher:
Assume lead teaching schedule and classroom duties.
Follow teacher's lesson plans and set up classroom.
Act as Lead Teacher when primary LT is absent. Guide substitute on the days plans and Teaching Assistants yard/lunch/break schedule.
Notify parents in case of child illness/injury.

Back-To-School Night (September)
Information Day (November)
Assigned Class performance
Staff meetings (monthly)
Wednesday afternoon meetings
Bi-annual parent/teacher conferences
Scheduled staff in-services
Optional: Evening and weekend events, such as class performances, picnics, and fundraising events.
Student Supervision:
When supervising directly, Teaching Assistants shall be responsible for the safety of all children when on schoolyard at recess and lunch. This includes, but is not limited to, consistent monitoring, disciplining, and/or facilitating conflict resolution for the following behaviors such as: use of inappropriate language, teasing, physical aggression, exclusion, etc.
Curriculum:
Assist in planning curriculum and teaching of Partner Pals program.
Substitutes:
Be responsible for finding a substitute when absent and informing Lead Teacher and Administrative team of absence.
Miscellaneous:
Exhibit professional standards of attendance, punctuality, language, preparedness, and relationship to students.
Work flexibly and cooperatively with grade level team.
Maintain a thirty-five hour workweek, adhering to classroom arrival and departure schedule. Serve more than one classroom, if necessary.
All other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
COMPENSATION: Commensurate with experience.
