Do you want to help kids achieve academic success?
We offer private classes and small groups where we teach K-12 children to write and read. We've been around for over 20 years in Fremont. Hours are after 3PM on weekdays, and usually run from 4:30 PM to 9:20 PM.
Do you have a BA or above in English, philosophy, journalism, or a related field? A teaching credential, current or expired, is a huge plus, as is a graduate degree.
Pay starts at $50 an hour, with bonuses for more kids in a class. A graduate degree or credential is worth another $10 an hour. We work 45 weeks a year.
You must have at least a year of teaching or tutoring experience as an adult. You must be comfortable with academic editing, because we edit a lot of papers.
We will train you to teach writing in our highly effective system. We help kids get As and go on to top schools. We also teach struggling students. There is not a lot more satisfying than helping a struggling reader get on grade level then learn to love reading.
We currently can offer about 10 hours a week in the evenings over three weekdays, with at least two hours a day, but we could go lower in the number of hours, and more hours can come in the long term. We have two teachers who work full time, so that is a future possibility.
You must currently be located in or near Fremont. Our office is in the Irvington area, and all teaching will be onsite.
