Job Summary
The San Mateo County Event Center is a public assembly facility that hosts a wide variety of events and produces the San Mateo County Fair. It also operates the Jockey Club, a satellite wagering facility for horseracing, as well as a full-service food service operation. The Bar Attendant is responsible for pouring and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as providing superior service to patrons. This is an as-needed position for specific events, and the position will not have a regular or set schedule.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Greets guests in a courteous and friendly manner and takes customer orders.
Serves prepared premixed alcohol, beer, and wine. Includes pouring wine, opening canned, beverages and serving pre-mixed alcoholic beverages.
Check guests for proper identification. Detect and act upon guest inebriation as trained.
Abide by all state, federal, and corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages.
Inputs bar and/or concession orders into register at the point of sale, processes credit card payments, and maintains accountability for all beverages served.
Maintains proper and adequate set-up and clean-up of the bar daily. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning and loading bars and stands, placing portable bars, requisitioning and stocking all beer, wine, spirits, paper products, straws and stirrers, condiments, and produce.
Act as a runner, supporting the bartender by replenishing supplies and handing drinks to patrons.
Cashiering responsibilities include operating the POS system in a concession setting to ensure an accurate and smooth flow of customer traffic.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Basic knowledge of classic cocktails, wine, and beer.
Must have experience handling credit card transactions
Strong customer service skills.
Ability to work fast and under pressure.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with management, co-workers, clients and customers using principles of good customer service.
Requires being responsible, reliable and dependable to fulfill job obligations.
Work long and irregular hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Minimum Requirements
Experience in food and beverage service and customer service.
Ability to obtain valid Food Handlers and Responsible Beverage Server certifications within 30 days of employment.
