Bar Manager Position at Jaji – Contemporary Afghan Restaurant in Downt

Jaji, a fine casual dining establishment located in the heart of downtown Oakland, is looking for an experienced and dynamic Bar Manager to join our team. We're a contemporary Afghan restaurant offering a unique blend of flavors and a vibrant atmosphere. As we finalize our team to prepare to open, we need an individual with a passion for hospitality, leadership, and creativity to oversee our bar operations and create an exceptional experience for our guests.

Bar Manager Job Responsibilities:

- Maintain inventory, ensuring stock levels are optimal.

- Create and curate drink and food menus.

- Provide feedback on employees’ schedules and manage team performance.

- Ensure the bar is always well-stocked, clean, and organized.

- Develop and implement a cleaning schedule for the bar team.

- Track customer behavior and sales data to optimize performance.

- Establish rapport with returning clientele and foster repeat business.

- Maintain budget and monitor costs related to bar operations.

- Keep detailed drink recipe documentation and incorporate guest feedback into the cocktail program.

- Assist in planning and executing special events.

- Delegate tasks effectively to the bar staff.

- Select and purchase liquor and other bar supplies.

- Oversee bartenders, barbacks, and occasionally wait staff and kitchen staff.

- Hire, train, promote, and manage disciplinary action when necessary.

- Provide input on music selection, décor, and marketing strategies.

- Establish and maintain vendor relationships.

- Utilize point-of-sale tracking technology and restaurant management platforms.

Bar Manager Qualifications/Skills:

- Accomplished mixologist with a passion for creativity.

- Strong multitasking and organizational skills.

- Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal relationship abilities.

- Attention to detail and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

- Strong leadership and customer service skills.

- Familiarity with food, beverage, and hospitality industries.

- Ability to deescalate tense interactions and manage stressful situations.

- Creative judgment and the ability to innovate.

- Knowledge of the Bay Area culinary scene and Afghan cuisine is a plus.

- Facility with math and hospitality technology platforms.

- High energy, enthusiasm, and passion for guest satisfaction.

Education, Experience, & Licensing Requirements:

- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or higher in hotel and restaurant management is a plus.

- 3+ years of bartending or bar management experience is required.

- Supervisory experience is essential.

- Familiarity with point-of-sale technology and bar management systems.
