SUMMARY
This position supports the Cafe Manager in the day-to-day operations of the cafe. They oversee the operation and its staff when the Manager is absent. They assist in training staff and setting the example for great customer service. They also assist with maximizing sales and profitability, inventory and expense control, staff coverage, and managing operating costs and shrinkage.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that each guest receives outstanding service.
- Model and train staff on excellent customer service standards, providing solid product knowledge, and leading by example.
- Ensure that all food and health code requirements are met in every area of the café.
- Maintain a safe working environment ensuring that employees are well trained and following all safety practices.
- Assist with staffing coverage, scheduling breaks, meal periods, and time off requests.
- Ensure retail merchandise is stocked appropriately with an attractive, timely assortment and well placed signage.
- Assist with training and motivating employees (opening, closing, money handling, product knowledge, and service standards).
- Work with the Manager to ensure Cafe is fully stocked with fresh product and well organized.
- Assist employees with their duties (i.e. Cashier, Busser, Cook, etc.) jumping in as necessary.
- Provide opening and closing duties on a regular basis.
- Consistently at work and on time. Ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
- Enter and maintain information in the Cafe POS and other online/data systems.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
SKILLS
- A passion for creating a great customer service experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to train and motivate staff.
- Ability to foster a supportive environment with a focus on teamwork.
- Must work well under pressure and exercise tact and patience in all situations with employees and guests.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to solve conflicts, maintain confidentiality, listen to others and remain open to others' ideas.
- Bilingual communication in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Must be available to work a varied schedule including weekends and holidays.
EXPERIENCE
- One year of Restaurant industry experience.
- Working knowledge of POS systems and other technical software specific to the industry.
- Must provide a Food Handlers Certificate within 30 days of employment
