Summary of Position:
Simple Delights is a local and growing dessert shop located in San Mateo. In addition to our ice cream and frozen yogurt offerings, we specialize in custom cakes, ice cream cakes, and a variety of desserts. We are seeking a talented Cake Decorator to join our team and assist with both custom and ready-made cakes.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a part-time position (20 hours per week to start), hourly. Flexible schedules are available, but weekend availability is required.
Job Tasks:
- Decorate standard ice cream cakes and frosted cakes.
- Decorate custom cakes, custom ice cream cakes, and custom cupcakes according to customer requests.
- Operate a stand mixer and maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and work area.
Essential Functions:
- Build and decorate cakes with precision and creativity.
- Utilize basic piping skills, including writing on cakes.
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out the trash.
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly.
Requirements:
- Current Food Handler’s Certification.
- Experience in cake decorating and strong artistic skills.
- Knowledge of various piping techniques and styles.
- Understanding of baking equipment and implements.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk on a level surface and stand for extended periods throughout the day.
- Capability to reach above shoulder height or below the waist and lift as necessary to access or store materials.
- Proper lifting techniques are required.
- Strong multitasking abilities.
- Team player with excellent organizational skills.
- Good communication skills and attention to detail.
