Hi there, and thanks for your interest in the Grocery + Food Buyer position at Dolores Deluxe!
About the project:
Hi, we're Dolores Deluxe, a legacy corner store in Dolores Heights that has been a fixture in the neighborhood since 1911. The location is insane (just 3 blocks from Dolores Park), and the building is gorgeous. We've been open for a little over two years now, and we're grateful to see the neighborhood rally in support of our concept!
While we look like your every day corner store, we place a lot of energy into our community, with a big focus on parties, pop-ups, private events, and specialty prepared foods! Our selection highlights minimal intervention wines, a mix of local and international beers, additive-free spirits, delicious N/A beverages, and plenty of snacks! We also feature organic produce, homemade fruit slushies, catered picnics, grab-and-go food, weekly meal kits, and quarterly wine tastings in the park!
About the position:
You'll make $19 - $25 (DOE) per hour plus gratuities on the days that you're scheduled, typically amounting to $100 in added pay per week.
You'll work a set schedule, ideally 3-4 shifts per week. We need help both in the mornings (with a 7AM start time) and in the evenings, typically starting at 1:30PM until 9PM (there is some flexibility on start and end times depending on the day). There may be the option for additional admin/wine education work for the right candidate. Weekend availability is going to be a requirement for this position as we tend to host well-attended pop-ups on Saturdays & Sundays.
You'll work very closely with ownership on a daily basis, learning the ins & outs of a small business including finance, operations, strategy, and creative direction.
You'll help manage inventory on a weekly basis, and work with ownership to ensure our offerings are aligned with the demands of our neighborhood.
Physical requirements for legal purposes: Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e.g., small print). Move at a speed required to respond to work situations (e.g., run, walk, jog). Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance and objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds with assistance. Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces as well as up and down stairs and/or service ramps. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.
What we are looking for:
One year of food buying/grocery experience is a requirement.
Someone who is a charismatic host that isn’t afraid of social interaction.
A self starter with a go-get-it mentality!
A genuine love for food & beverage (and ideally, other stuff)!
Creativity, drive, and a passion for learning new things!
Honesty + integrity.
Open availability, with the understanding that we will respect your time outside of work.
Active ServSafe & RBS Certification.
Experience with wine & spirits strongly preferred but will teach the right candidate!
Experience with food preparation and cooking strong preferred.
Retail experience is a bonus.
What we'll offer in return:
Growth, and lots of it! We plan on opening more retail outlets in the Bay Area and beyond, and have our eyes on a San Francisco bar/restaurant project in the near future.
Continuous wine + spirits education, and reimbursement of any WSET, CMS, BarSmarts, or Cicerone certifications upon completion.
25% employee discount for in-store purchases.
