The Food Services General Assistant is a member of a 9 person team that prepares food for approximately 650 students and employees Monday through Friday during the school year (mid-August to end of May, excluding school vacations). This is a temporary position that begins as soon as possible, with the possibility of becoming a permanent employee. The current hours are 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM on school days.
The team has been working together for many years, and provides a school lunch program that is enjoyed throughout the community. Daily, there is a hot lunch, salad bar, and sandwich option.
Key responsibilities include:
Help with all food prep, which includes chopping and peeling
Help make sure that all food is ready on time
Help keep track of inventory
Organize deliveries as needed
Cover Front and Cashier, if needed
Supports menu planning
Help break down and clean stations
Assist in maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen and food services area, including helping in the dish room as needed
Other duties as assigned
Other requirements include:
Understand food ingredients (and allergens) and food preparation methods
Able to multi-task and establish effective priorities
Ability to follow the daily prep list
Enjoy working in a school environment
Ability to understand verbal and written instructions in English, Spanish speaking is a plus!
Qualifications:
ServSafe Food Safety Certification (school will cover cost to get within 30 days of employment)
Enthusiasm for preparing food from scratch
Dependable, team player
Maintain a positive and friendly attitude
Ability to pass a background check (as required to work in CA schools)
Physical responsibilities:
Frequent walking and continuously required to stand, up to 7 hours per day
Frequently bending or twisting at the neck
Reach with hands and arms, repetitive finger, hand, and arm motions
Frequent bending, stooping, turning, reaching
Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
