Company

Basil the Bold is a small Californian-Thai meal box catering company that was founded in 2020. We take pride in making Thai food that’s authentic but not always traditional, combining bold Thai flavors with Californian sensibilities.

We are a tiny team of one owner and three cooks. We produce about 50-200 pre-ordered lunch boxes every weekday in our kitchen in Dogpatch to be delivered to offices all around the Bay Area.

Responsibilities

We are about to open our first physical location in the first half of 2024 as a small grab-and-go storefront at the Embarcadero Center! The retail store has no kitchen. All the food will be cooked from our Dogpatch kitchen and pre-packaged into ready-to-eat boxes. There will be one quick cook Turbochef oven at the retail store which you will use to heat up rice boxes for customers upon request. The owner will work closely with you at the store in the beginning. Over time, you are expected to work mostly independently.

- Assemble, pack, and label salad lunch boxes in the morning at our Dogpatch kitchen

- Load and unload lunch boxes into our transport vehicle

- Be the cashier at our retail store at the Embarcadero Center

- Reheat food for customers upon request using a quick cook oven

- Provide friendly customer service

- Keep the store atmosphere tidy and welcoming

- Dispose of unsold and expired lunch boxes at the end of the day

- Clean and close up the retail store at the end of the day

- Count and report daily lunch box inventory to the owner

- Occasionally, when we are very busy with orders, you may need to help cook and clean in the Dogpatch kitchen before and/or after going to the retail store

More About Working with Us!

We maintain high-standards for our work, but a laid-back team culture. The owner is particular about quality. However, she is also very understanding and kind. As long as you show her that you are honest, hard-working, reliable, and will produce high-quality and consistent food and services, she will give you a lot of freedom and authority to manage your own tasks and to provide inputs into running and growing the business.

Our culture emphasizes caring for people. We treat employees and customers with respect, understanding, kindness, and fairness. We always celebrate employees’ birthdays and holiday dinners together. The owner is always open to feedback.

We are always looking for new ways to grow our business, so you must be adaptable to business experimentations and changes. In the past year, we have taught cooking classes, sold food at night markets, and catered a wedding.

As the company grows, you will grow too. After 3 months of good work, you will be eligible for monthly bonuses based on monthly sales. As our business changes, there will be opportunities to grow into managerial positions or try different types of work, such as events catering and delivery driving, depending on your interests.
