Lulu Carpenter’s is hiring baristas for all of our Santa Cruz locations. Base pay starts at $18 an hour, and rises to $20 an hour over the course of your first year of employment. There’s lots of room for advancement and pay raises beyond, too
Tips happen on top of that, and are generally in the $6-8 an hour range.
We require a minimum commitment and attendance of three days a week, one of which must be on the weekend. We prefer a bit more commitment though, and full time workers make us really happy.
Our stores are fast paced, and the work is demanding. There are often solo shifts, depending on the time of day, and business flow. Keeping up with it all requires great bartending skills. It’s a lot of fun if you’re into that kind of thing. We like nice, friendly, energetic people with positive outlooks. No experience is necessary, although we are impressed with people who have successfully worked retail and food service jobs. We’re not rockstar baristas, so if you’re looking for that, we’re not your place. We’re honest to goodness food service and coffee people who’ve been doing this for 35 years. After that much time, it ain’t about being cool. It’s about being really good at what you do. We roast our coffees, we make our foods from scratch, we make good coffee drinks, we have homey places to work in, and hang out after. We know this stuff better than anybody, and we’ll teach you as well, if you come with an open mind and a willingness to learn.
