Nisei is a Michelin-starred restaurant in Russian Hill, San Francisco, led by Chef David Yoshimura, that reimagines Japanese-American cuisine through the lens of fine dining and seasonality. Within our first year, we earned: Michelin Star, Michelin “Young Chef Award” and a James Beard Award Nomination.
We celebrate the craft of cooking, blending Japanese technique, California’s best ingredients, and an obsessive respect for detail. Our team regularly visits local farms and wineries to deepen our connection to the people and places behind every ingredient.

We’re hiring for multiple positions:
Prep Cooks: Build strong fundamentals and learn Michelin-level precision.
Line Cooks: Run your own station, execute daily service, and hone your craft.
Pastry Cooks: Explore Japanese flavors through delicate technique and modern presentation.
CDC/Sous Chefs: Lead, mentor, and shape the next evolution of Nisei’s cuisine.

Ideal Candidates:
1–5+ years of professional kitchen experience (Michelin or fine dining preferred)
Culinary school graduate or equivalent training a plus
Strong knife skills, attention to detail, and clean work habits
Passion for Japanese cuisine and innovation
Team-oriented with strong communication
Reliable, organized, and eager to improve daily
Flexible availability (evenings, weekends, events)
Compensation & Benefits:
Pay: $22–$27/hour depending on experience
Paid Vacation: 10 days per year
Observed Holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Day
Winter Break: 1 week off in January
Summer Break: 1 week off around July 4th
