Companion Bakeshop is a small quality-driven bakery in Santa Cruz, CA. We have been named Best Bread by Santa Cruz County for the past decade and we take pride in making the best organic pastries and sourdough in the area.
The person we are looking for is hard working, punctual, reliable, professional, able to work on a timeline, works with a natural hustle without losing attention to detail. This person must be comfortable working independently as well as with a team. These positions are available in our Pastry Kitchen located in Aptos. The team you will be joining is welcoming, hard-working, kind, professional, and fun. We get a lot done in a day, and if this sounds like a team you would fit into, we want to meet you!
Flexible schedules are a plus on the days you are available, to allow for availability of switching up which shift you work on each of your scheduled days.
Shift Structure & Positions Available:
All shifts are 8 hours.
All team members must be willing to work at least one 2a.m. bake shift per month.
Priority given to those willing to work a mixture of the shifts below
Afternoon Production (Mon-Fri, 1 full time, or 2 part time positions available)
12pm start time
Learns shaping of croissant dough items, prepping fillings, quiche and frittata prepping & baking, baking & shaping cookies, prioritizing tasks & seeing the big picture of the day's production tasks. Kitchen/baking experience preferred, but not required. Must be able to do a lot of basic math very often, stand for long periods of time, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Pastry Baker (Part time, flexible days - 2 positions available)
2 a.m. start time for the Bake shift, 3:30 a.m. or 6 a.m. for shifts on days you're not baking
Works solo to bake all of the morning pastries and is joined by a partner to pack and prepare for the following day's bake. Kitchen/baking experience preferred. Must be able to do a lot of basic math very often, stand for long periods of time, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Teacake Making (Full Time, Flexible Days - 1 position available)
8 a.m. start time
Works solo (in a busy kitchen) on batch-baking our teacakes/sweet breads. Kitchen/baking experience preferred, but not required. Must be able to do a lot of basic math very often, stand for long periods of time, and lift up to 50 lbs.
These positions all collect tips as well as an hourly wage.

Wage info:
-Training rate is based on experience; if NO prior kitchen experience, training rate begins @ $17/hr.
-2am Bake Shift rate is paid $21-22.50/hr after training
-Tips approx $2/hr extra are also earned on top of your hourly wage.
-50c raises available to eligible employees at cross-training benchmarks and reviews.
Requirements for the positions:
Willingness and ability to work an 8 hour shift on your feet.
Willingness and ability to move quickly, and able to lift 50 lbs.
Works well with a team and respects leadership roles but is also comfortable working independently.
