THE TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB

The Town and Country Club is a private social club founded in 1893. It is the second oldest woman’s club in the nation. During the 1906 earthquake and fire, the clubhouse was destroyed and the members sought new quarters on Union Square. The club moved in to the current clubhouse in 1909 when the building was rebuilt.

JOB DESCRIPTON: SERVER/ATTENDANT FULL-TIME

Summary: A server provides food and beverage service at both a la carte and banquet style events to Club members and guests. He/She prepares for service, provides food and beverage and hospitality service, and cleans member and work areas. The work is accomplished individually and in conjunction with other personnel. This is a union position and is not overtime exempt.

Qualifications:

Must have a service-oriented approach to all facets of the position.

Some experience as a server or bus person in a full-service restaurant, or as a banquet server in an upscale catering operation is preferred.

Ability to effectively communicate in English orally and in writing. Other language proficiency is helpful.

Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

A working knowledge of beverage mixology and wine varietals is preferred.

Physical Requirements: Standing and walking for extended periods of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Bending and being able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Finger dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters and hear with normal range. Ability to move about.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Prepares for service. Duties include but are not limited to stocking supplies; setting up stations, side stations and service areas; set up and reset of tables and chairs and performing any other assigned side work or related set-up tasks.

2. Provides food and beverage, and hospitality service. Duties include, but are not limited to: providing immediate attention to guests upon arrival; taking and delivering beverage and food orders; offering hors d’oeuvre service; assisting in seating guests; placing orders with and picking up food from the kitchen; keeping tables clean; removing used china, silver, and linen; replenishing water, butter, bread, wine, and other items as needed. Also, fulfilling special requests, checking on guest satisfaction, attending to guest needs as they arise; and advising supervisors of any guest concerns.

3. Knowledge of food and beverage products and service. Duties include, but are not limited to knowing: correct mis en place for each menu item; preparation method, time of preparation, and ingredients of each menu item; and service standards, procedures and service systems of the Club.

4. Cleans up after service. Duties include, but are not limited to: cleaning all assigned work areas in the kitchen and the dining room; clearing all dirty china, glassware, silverware, and linen; resetting and preparing dining areas for the next shift; stocking supplies; cleaning shared locker room/restroom; and performing clean-up and closing duties as may be assigned by management or supervisors.

5. Supports co-workers and management in facilitating the goals and objectives of the Club. Duties include, but are not limited to: attending pre-meal shifts, training sessions, and staff meetings as scheduled by management; providing assistance to other operating departments as needed; and taking on other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Schedule and Reporting: Typically, the Server will work 20 hours per week however during the busy season and based on business demands overtime will be expected. This is generally a Tuesday – Saturday workweek from 11:00am-3:00pm. It is expressly understood that one is available for all shifts and days of the week unless the General Manager has agreed otherwise in writing. This position reports directly to the Dining Room Manager and indirectly to the General Manager or other management.

Uniform: A server shall provide his/her own white dress shirt, black bowtie, black socks/hosiery and black shoes as specified in the Employee Handbook. The Club provides a jacket and pants and/or dress/skirt. Attire and grooming shall at all times be conservative, professional, and appropriate to the Club’s decorum. Other appearance standards are covered in the Employee Handbook.

Salary: $25.47 per hour for ala carte, plus event rates
