FT Nurse Needed for Home Care Job w/ Trach & Ventilator Experience

Hello, I am a 38-year-old UC Berkeley grad with a degenerative muscle condition who requires round-the-clock care. I live independently in Berkeley, despite using a ventilator full time, having a tracheostomy, and using a feeding tube to eat. I also use a computer to speak, as well as mouthing words to communicate. Experience with breathing equipment like tracheostomies and ventilators required.

This is a great opportunity for a trustworthy, sharp, and responsible nurse eager for a challenge, who can help me with my equipment and daily routines in a home healthcare setting.

I am looking for someone who is available to work 5 days a week, Tuesday-Saturday, from approximately 2pm-10pm.

JOB DUTIES:

–Maintaining my ventilator and suctioning secretions

–Observing my breathing and treating my symptoms as requested

–Using the cough machine as needed

–Transferring me out of my wheelchair into bed using ceiling track lift

–Medication administration through feeding tube

–Therapeutic breathing treatment through nebulizer

–Cleaning my tracheostomy and PICC line

–Managing my feeding tube

–Range-of-motion stretches and repositioning

–Daily living tasks, like brushing my teeth and bathroom routine

–May include assistance with organizing, ordering, and maintaining supplies and assisting with medical appointments

REQUIREMENTS:

– Respiratory, ventilator and tracheostomy care experience

–Strong: Ability to lift 50+ pounds (for positioning me) as this is a physical job, though I do use a ceiling track "hoyer" lift

–Fluent English

–Commitment to working at least one year

–Solid references from former employers

–Lip-reading experience preferred

–Job requires some reaching, so if you're shorter than 5'4", some tasks may be physically difficult

–Valid drivers license preferred, but not required

–Can reliably commit to a consistent schedule

–Willingness and flexibility to back up shifts when other caregivers are out

Extensive training is provided until we both feel comfortable in your ability to perform all parts of the job independently.

SCHEDULE:

Tuesday-Saturday, Approx. 2pm-10pm. Must include Saturdays. Backup availability in the mornings is helpful, as there is room for growth.

PAY:

$40-50/hr depending on relevant experience and credentials. I pay overtime, sick pay, PTO, bonuses, and give periodic raises. Health insurance provided.

LOCATION:

I live 3 blocks from the Downtown Berkeley BART in my own home with my partner and dog. Free off-street parking is available.
