Part-Time Domestic Helper (for kind couple near Lake Merritt)
Location: Lake Merritt, Oakland (Adam’s Point Neighborhood)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, Mid-Afternoon to Early Evening
(Dinner Shift / 3-6 pm or 2-5pm etc)
Hours: 3 hours per shift (15 hours weekly)
Pay Rate: $30 per hour (+ $50 weekly bonus if no missed shifts, so it ends up being $100 for every three hour shift worked, $500 per week = $2,000/mo for part-time three hour shifts - weekday afternoons)
You must be located near Lake Merritt, as such a short shift won't make sense if you have to commute back and forth in afternoon/evening traffic.
Note on Gender: We love and accept all genders / identities, however our small, and very sweet toothless 10yr old Chihuahua rescue has "Man issues" because of past trauma. So, our in home helper has to be a woman, or woman-presenting to a degree. We love the men in our lives as much as anybody, and we employ men routinely in other capacities, but our dog will not cope well with men that aren't very familiar relatives being in her personal space. If you are a man it just won't work, we've tried. Sorry guys. This is in no way discriminatory, or preference driven. It's just that the job is in a private home with a dog that doesn't deal well with men. So, it is with our apologies, we ask that men not waste their valuable time applying for a position it won't be possible to offer you. (Having said that, trans women presenting as women, non-binary (female at birth), and/or feminie energies generally pass the "sniff test" lol, so if you fall into this category don't hesitate to apply. We think it's more about men's voices, the more masculine builds, the heavier movements, etc that are triggering for her.) Thank you for understanding!

Job Description:
Position available for a reliable and experienced in-home helper to help with household tasks, such as keeping the home cleaned / organized, doing laundry, preparing one healthy meal per shift, preparing smoothies with vitamins, and other odds and ends in the cleaning/cooking department.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Housekeeping: Maintain a clean home, including cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, and tidying/organizing. Laundry: Wash, dry, fold, and put away laundry; ensure proper care of linens and clothing. Cooking: Prepare one healthy meal per shift with provided groceries, or our blue apron meal subscription plan. Smoothies / Vitamins: Ensure they are prepared and available to be taken on schedule. Errands: Run errands as needed (e.g., grocery shopping, prescriptions, etc), but mostly it will just be picking up the occasional "curbside pickup" order of groceries at the store next to the house. Energetic Balance: Interact positively while keeping a calm, low-disruption presence.
Qualifications:
Experience in housekeeping, cooking, and household management. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Must work independently with minimal supervision, we are not micro-mangers that are looking to breathe down someone's neck lol. If you are someone that only needs to hear something once or twice, then you will excel here. MUST be located near Lake Merritt for easy commute. It's such a short shift it only makes sense for someone that doesn't have to drive far, or fight traffic. Please don't apply if the Wholefoods next to Lake Merritt is too far for you to commute for a three hour shift on a daily basis when traffic is at it's heaviest. A “home body” who avoids crowded places, as we strive to reduce contagion risks in the home.
Preferred Candidate Attributes:
Brings positive, uplifting energy. Calm and mindful of clients' routines. Respects clients' privacy and personal space.
About Us:
We are a kind, privacy-minded couple seeking help around the house. My wife is a vibrant, inspiring woman with a zeal for life that lights up our home. She’s the driving force behind my happiness, constantly motivating me to grow and become the best version of myself. However, chronic health challenges make it difficult for her to manage household tasks consistently.
For some time, I’ve been responsible for most of the cooking, cleaning, and other chores. With my growing responsibilities at work, it’s become overwhelming to balance everything—household tasks, my job, and my mental well-being. At this point, we’re ready to bring in a compassionate professional to help restore balance to our lives.
We believe household work is valuable work. A clean, well-organized home provides the foundation for personal growth, health, and productivity, while healthy meals nourish the mind, body, and soul. We're looking for someone who shares these values and also understands that not all disabilities are visible. It’s important that you approach this role with care, kindness, and respect—without judgment, prying, or ableist assumptions.
The position involves spending about half of each shift preparing a nutritious meal and cleaning the kitchen, and the other half maintaining the house’s cleanliness. We’ve had help in the past, and a skilled/experienced individual was able to clean the house spotless from top to bottom within a single three-hour shift. So, I determined that five shifts per week, three hours each, should be sufficient to keep everything clean, and running smoothly. (Note: We are not dirty people, we live in a nice two bedroom, with plenty of storage and supplies, and whatever is needed will be available to you. It will not feel like a crazy task, and it won't give you the ick I promise. Your job, especially once you're in the groove of things, will essentially be to keep a clean house clean, and to help us combat the daily clutter that builds up if it doesn't receive daily attention. + one meal per shift. )
We don’t see these tasks as menial. In fact, they are essential to creating a peaceful, supportive environment where we can thrive. Your efforts will allow me to focus on my job and be fully present as a loving husband, free from the overwhelm that comes from trying to do it all.
If you take pride in your work and can bring warm, judgment-free energy into our home, we would love to hear from you. This role matters deeply to us, and we’re ready to welcome the right person who can help our household flourish.

If you meet the qualifications and are interested in bringing a compassionate and conscientious energy to your work, please send your resume and a brief cover letter explaining your relevant experience and why you are a good fit for this role.
