Construction Material Runner / Warehouse Associate

We are a fast paced electrical and underground construction contractor located in San Francisco, CA and are seeking a full time Construction Material Runner / Warehouse Associate to join our team! We are a small company with about 25 employees where all employees are treated fairly, respected and appreciated for their work. Your role will be to assist Superintendents and Foremen to deliver construction material from the shop to the job site and other locations, mostly within the City of San Francisco. Your other responsibilities are to help out around the warehouse with material offloading, fabricating wooden templates or miscellaneous tasks around the warehouse. You will be driving trucks that range from a standard pickup truck to a bobtail dump truck (<26,000 GVWR). If you have a CDL A or B, that is a big plus. Your day to day tasks will vary and include many other scopes (see below). In turn you will become a very well rounded, skilled worker with knowledge of basic construction. Depending on your performance, there may also be potential for growth in a skilled trade classification ranging from Laborer, Driver, or Electrician. The typical workweek is from Monday - Friday, 7:00AM - 3:30PM in the Bayview District in San Francisco. On certain days, you may be required to work some over time (30 minutes - 1 hour) if the job is running late but this will not be often. This position is for you if you are hard working, honest, ambitious, dedicated, not scared to get dirty, and are willing to roll up your sleeves to get stuff done. This job is not for you if you are expecting a slow, laid back position. We are not a company that will keep your pay the same from the day you are hired; if you are a hard working and provide value to the company, you will almost certainly get a raise on a regular basis but this is all up to you. Your day will go by fast because you will be busy every day.

Your responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

Writing down instructions and keeping a daily log.

Organizing and cleaning up the shop

Cleaning up work trucks

Building wooden templates in the shop

Posting Tow-Away signs at job sites

Offloading deliveries in the shop with a forklift or by hand.

Helping load material onto trucks in the mornings (conduits, pull boxes, etc.)

Wearing PPE at the job site (safety vest, steel toe boots, and hard hat)

Minor vehicle repairs (changing lights, etc.)

Picking up construction material such as concrete, asphalt, or sand from the associated plants and dropping off at the job site.

Off-haul / dumping debris at recycle/dump facilities.

Miscellaneous shop work.

Getting dirty from time to time (exposure to concrete, equipment grease, etc.)

The ideal candidate:

Works safely

Has a positive attitude

Has good communication skills

Is a good driver with a good driving record

Is fast paced, but works in a safe manner

Eager to learn new things

Able to lift heavy objects (60 lbs+)

Not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty

Is respectful of colleagues and others.

Is familiar with using small hand tools and power tools

Is familiar with basic vehicle maintenance

Takes advice and criticism well

Is reliable, dependable, punctual and trustworthy

Requirements:

CA Class C Driver’s license

Clean driving record

Good driver

English speaking Good communication skills

Comfortable with using Google maps for navigation

Good at following instructions/directions

Age Requirement: 21+

Additional Qualifications and Preferences:

High school / College graduate

CDL A or B Preferred

Bi-lingual (Spanish speaking)

Forklift, Bobcat, or Mini-excavator experience

Experience in any kind of construction industry

Experience in basic vehicle maintenance or repair

Ability to use a computer to keep track of materials or use Craigslist to post material for sale, etc.

Good organizational skills
