Purpose:
The purpose of this policy is to establish clear guidelines and expectations for janitors during their shift. It is essential for maintaining cleanliness, safety, and overall facility maintenance while adhering to company standards.
Required:
Must be able to lift/push/pull/carry minimum 20lb-40lb.
Must be able to stand/walk/squat/bend for extended periods of time
General Responsibilities:
1. Punctuality and Attendance
Arrive on time at the start of your shift and be prepared to begin work immediately.
Notify your supervisor in advance if you will be late or unable to attend your shift.
2. Work Schedule and Task Adherence
Follow the assigned work schedule and complete tasks within the designated timeframe.
If any task is unclear or you are unsure of priorities, consult with your supervisor immediately.
Report any issues or delays to your supervisor as they arise.
3. Cleaning Duties
Ensure all designated cleaning areas are maintained throughout the shift, including but not limited to floors, restrooms, offices, hallways, kitchens, and common areas.
Perform cleaning duties according to company standards, using proper cleaning products and equipment.
Maintain cleanliness and organization in supply rooms and storage areas.
4. Safety Protocols
Follow all safety guidelines, including proper handling and disposal of cleaning chemicals.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when using cleaning chemicals or equipment.
Be aware of safety hazards (e.g., wet floors, broken equipment) and take necessary steps to mitigate risks, such as using caution signs or alerting others.
Report any safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, or hazards to your supervisor immediately.
5. Equipment and Supplies Management
Use cleaning equipment properly and return it to its designated storage location after use.
Ensure that all tools, chemicals, and supplies are handled with care and are properly stocked.
Report any issues with equipment (e.g., malfunctioning vacuum, broken mop bucket) to your supervisor promptly.
Keep track of cleaning supplies to ensure adequate levels and notify your supervisor if restocking is needed.
6. Customer and Client Interactions
Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with clients, staff, or visitors.
Address any concerns or requests politely and promptly and report them to the supervisor if necessary.
Always provide assistance with a positive attitude and willingness to help when appropriate.
7. End-of-Shift Responsibilities
Before the end of your shift, ensure that all cleaning tasks are completed and that all areas are properly maintained.
Turn off and store all equipment properly, ensuring that it is ready for use during the next shift.
Secure all cleaning supplies and ensure that equipment is returned to its proper location.
Report any maintenance issues, repairs needed, or additional tasks to your supervisor before leaving.
8. Communication
Communicate effectively with your supervisor, team members, and other departments as needed.
Document and report any issues, incidents, or accidents that occur during your shift.
Update your supervisor on completed tasks and any challenges you may have encountered during the shift.
Compliance: Failure to follow this policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination. All janitors are expected to adhere to the standards set forth in this policy to ensure the highest level of cleanliness, safety, and professionalism. These duties represent the core responsibilities of the role; however, additional tasks may be assigned as needed to meet operational and or customer requirements.
