Stonybrook Canyon Farm is hiring

Stonybrook Canyon Farm is in Hayward/Castro Valley and we grow produce for nine local and high-end restaurants, along with a Saturday morning farmstand in summer. We are accepting inquiries from experienced farm people for our 2026 season. We are looking to fill two positions, one of whom has the ability and maturity, (or can learn quickly), to communicate with our chef customers, understand harvest and planting schedules, and quickly get up to speed in working independently as we start our farm season.

Candidates should have some work experience in agriculture, or can demonstrate that they have some experience that is relevant to high quality food and farming. We have found that people with long commutes, or who must cross a bridge to get to us, are not good candidates, so we expect you to live locally. We have sometimes found incredible employees who came to us with absolutely no experience, but that is rare. In general, we prefer to hire people who can show that they have some experience and interest with growing great food and know what it means to get their hands dirty.

Skills that we value on our farm are: The ability to understand how a shovel, or similar tool, is used. The ability to recognize the difference between an eggplant seedling and poison hemlock, for example, or the ability to learn those skills very quickly, is helpful. Harvesting is a significant part of the work, and our staff needs to have the ability to recognize when produce is at its peak, ready to be picked, and can understand that time to pick it matters. We enjoy pleasant people who work well with others, are dependable, have a good work ethic, and a passion for growing the best produce. Our pay rate ranges from $20 to $28 an hour, depending on skill and experience.

Our season starts in February and can run to the end of the year. We are flexible in work schedules, and would consider candidates who are looking for part-time or full-time work. The ideal candidate can handle a multitude of tasks (some of which are simply defined as hard work) and is capable of prioritizing and working independently. We can be very flexible in work schedules, within certain limitations.

There is no internet/cell reception at our farm, so people who expect to be texting their friends every five minutes will find themselves very frustrated. We are about 2 miles from Highway 580 and easily accessible by vehicle.

For an online glimpse into what we currently do, you can visit our Facebook page, but if you are interested in applying for the positions, please do so by responding to this post by email. Please do not call by phone or send messages to our Facebook page. Thank you so much for your interest.
