People With Disabilities Foundation (PWDF) is seeking a Paralegal (also legal secretary. Part-time or fulltime; hours to be agreed upon.
Position Description: Support attorney(s) providing legal representation of clients.:
1) Current complex civil rights litigation in federal court (ND) against the Social Security Administration
2) Social Security disability and/or SSI benefits, employment.
3) Disability Rights; ADA, and Sec. 504.
Specific Job Duties:
Draft pleadings and administrative letters, substantive and other issues, grammar and punctuation, etc.
Transcribes dictated documents;
Assists in the development of cases from intake through closure, including contacting medical providers at all levels of representation including ALJ appeals or litigation in court;
Assists in case management, including reporting current status of cases;
Supervises Legal Assistant;
Maintains calendar;
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Two to three years of experience preparing filings for complex litigation in federal court as described above;
Learn or know Social Security disability rules.
Professional communications, including both verbal and written skills;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Candidate must have attention to detail and proofreading skills.
Prefer experience supervising others.
Compensation/Benefits:
Pay range: DOE or salary of $45,000 - $60,000 for a fulltime 35-hour work week. Prorated for part-time;
Flexible schedule;
Paid time off (PTO) if work over the required amount of hours (after 90 days) and holidays;
Commuter checks (after 90 days) if work over the required amount of hours.
Health insurance according to agency policy (after 90 days) if work over the required amount of hours.
