Driver for Senior Center

Safely transport seniors to and from the Center and home for program participation in a timely manner. Deliver meals to homebound seniors and does a ‘safety check’ on their well-being. Maintain and clean vehicle, ensuring its readiness for service. Help with other duties at the agency.

Reports to:

Nutrition Program Manager, Social Services Administrator, or Activities Manager (depending on day or task)

Hours:

28.5 hours a week. M-F (hours can vary between 7am – 4:30pm).

Rate of Pay is $27.98/hour.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Drive seniors who participate in Senior Day Service, Nutrition Program, and other programs to and from center to home.

Drive seniors to programmed errands, visits, shopping, etc. a few times a month. Ensure safety of seniors during transport and while entering/exiting the vehicle. Help with carrying bags for seniors as needed.

Deliver hot lunch to homebound seniors on time.

Maintain vehicle records (maintenance, mileage, etc.), the cleanliness of vehicle, and the readiness of the vehicle for

service. Document daily driving routes for the SDS and Nutrition/meals on wheels substitute drivers.

Alert Social Services/Nutrition staff by identifying potential clients in need, as observed in transporting seniors or delivering meals.

Coordinate a variety of tasks at Brown Bag site on Thursdays: unload delivery of food, set up and clean-up of

distribution site, etc.

Assist with Yu-Ai Kai recycling programs. Push out/bring in dumpster (depending on day).

Perform any other duties deemed necessary for the smooth operation of the agency.

Qualifications:

Valid California Driver’s license and good driving record.

DOJ (Dept. of Justice) and FBI Fingerprint clearance.

Complete a health screening and have a TB test that is not more than a year old from date of hire and no later than seven days after employment.

Fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or willing to become fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Current First Aid and CPR certification or willing/able to become certified.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must know how to use a PC, Microsoft Office, and internet.

Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry at least 40 pounds.

Must be in good physical condition to meet the demands of the position. Able to safely assist seniors in moving about with and without assistive devices. Able to sit, stand, walk, push/pull, squat, bend, stoop and reach overhead, repetitively. Able to move tables, chairs. Able to periodically lift/carry program supplies, equipment.

Excellent organizational and time management skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong attention to detail.

Able to read and write English, and to follow written and oral instructions in English.

Able to work with volunteers.

Able to maintain confidentiality.

Experience working with seniors is a plus.

Bilingual in Japanese or another language a plus.

Familiar with the neighborhoods surrounding San Jose Japantown and Santa Clara County in general is a plus.
