Building on its 31-year-old history, The Living Room is advancing innovative approaches to support women and children experiencing homelessness establish a stable and flourishing life. Our efforts are focused on serving with housing, wrap around services, outreach, and focused financial assistance. We also serve hot meals and meal boxes. While much of our capacity provides one-on-one support, we have goals for micro-enterprise, and a teaching kitchen. Job Title: Food Services Kitchen Assistant
Reports To: Food Services Manager
Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Summary:
The Food Services Kitchen Assistant will ensure that the front and back of the house are clean, sanitized, and maintain the highest standard of kitchen and food services knowledge. The Kitchen Assistant will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, keeping timeliness and safety at front of mind. This position will also be solution orientated.
Job Duties:
Washes all wares including pots, plans, flatware, and glasses, by hand or using dishwashers
Correctly places and stores clean equipment, dishes, and utensils in assigned storage areas
Stocks serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and other assigned areas with necessary dishes and utensils
Food preparation and assembly of pantry bags
Assist in maintaining the food production from TLR campus garden
Food delivery and pick up
Utilize dry erase board to maximize effective and consistent communication
Cleans trash receptacles with water or steam
Responsible for making sure dishwashing supplies are well stocked and in good order
Assists in cleaning and preparing various foods for cooking and/or serving, as directed
Ensures work areas remain safe, clean, and orderly, adhering to all company, local, and state guidelines regarding
health, safety, and sanitation
Productively communicates with all stakeholders at The Living Room
Assists in ensuring the kitchen operates smoothly and providing an appropriate feedback loop for solutions
Performs other related duties as assigned
Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both indoors and outdoors
May be exposed to equipment vibrations, noises, and odors, wet and/or slippery surfaces.
May include traveling to meetings, conferences, and work assignments
The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and often work in a shared space
Some evenings and weekends are required for community functions and events
