Position: Fundraising Manager
Hours: 30-40 hours per week
Compensation: $75,000 to $85,000 per year based on experience
Location: San Francisco Bay Area, East Bay preferred.

About SOS Richmond
Safe Organized Spaces Richmond (SOS) is a constituent-designed and guided organization, established in 2021. We work to empower our unhoused neighbors on their journey to health, housing, income and personal goals. In our peer engagement approach 100% of our field staff are hired from local homeless encampments. They engage with and accompany our unhoused neighbors on their journey to sustainable housing.
About the Position: Fundraising Manager
The fundraising manager (FM) will be part of the administrative team that helps set and implement organizational strategy. The team works behind the scenes to create systems and funding to support SOS field work. The fundraising manager will be supervised by the executive director (ED) and will work collaboratively with the administrative team.
They will work closely with the executive director and the director of strategy and operations (DSO) to
1) follow-up upon and grow local relationship leads
2) collaboratively identify the most promising resource development strategies, and
3) create and pursue work plans to achieve fundraising goals
RESPONSIBILITIES
Start up:
Strategic Orientation: Spend time with the executive director and director of strategy and operations to understand the local opportunities and challenges
Planning and Oversight: Identify most promising relationships, fundraising and income generation strategies, current capacity, and needs; create work plan to move towards goals, with staff, Board, volunteers, and partners assigned to specific tasks; coordinate with all stakeholders and deftly follow leads; monitor progress, successes, and challenges
Volunteer Recruitment Strategy Input: Create volunteer recruiting strategies and systems for both program and fund development needs; conduct collections and drives; provide input on the training and supervision of volunteers

Jointly Oversee Income Generation Activities:
INCOME GENERATION: Work closely with the ED and DSO on relationship-building, strategy, proposals, RFPs and collaborative project development for local work contracts and grants - municipal, county, state and federal; follow-up on leads for potential contracted fee for service work
Oversee Specific Fundraising Activities:
GRANTS: Research/stay up-to-date on public and private fundraising opportunities and local dynamics through grantor email lists and database services e.g. Instrumentl, Grants.gov, Candid, other services; keep program templates up-to-date and tailor as needed for specific grant opportunities/RFPs; prepare/submit grants, track, and follow up as needed
DONORS: Update/maintain donor database with donor contact information, giving histories, preferred causes, and other personal/relevant information; create and conduct general, project, or special/one-time donation campaigns (using digital, print, and in person tools); cultivate 1x1 donor relationships to encourage sustained or increased giving, or contributions to specific campaigns; plan and implement local donor events; engage Board and staff in donor outreach/cultivation
IN KIND: Create/oversee community collections and drives; outreach to CBOs, schools/colleges, faith institutions, civic clubs, businesses, and others for conducting or participating in drives and collective action; track all in-kind contributions with estimated value for audits
Oversee Outreach:
Plan/oversee the following outreach:
- In person events (presentations, networking, tabling at community events)
- Listings on external sites/databases
- Press (press releases, op eds)
- Seeking pro bono creative agency partners
Provide input and co-leadership with Communications Specialist, ED and DSO on:
- Print materials (brochures/flyers/postcards, mailings)
- Digital (website, social media channels)
- Campaign design and marketing
- Design and marketing related to partnerships and collaborations
Track success rates with each strategy (number/type of new volunteers, donors, and supporters recruited, press coverage, event attendance, etc.)
Systems & Data:
- Develop reporting, program evaluation, and impact assessment processes
- Collect and analyze fundraising data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement
- Create a development flow chart and manage development teamwork — staff/Board/volunteer lines of supervision and roles/tasks
- Enhance the existing development manual with policies/processes for fundraising activities
- Build on existing tools for development work, i.e. donor database, donation receipts and other tools as identified
QUALIFICATIONS
7+ years community-based fundraising experience preferred
Track record of fundraising from public sector, individual donor, philanthropic, and corporate sources
Highly organized self-starter who understands how to creatively build upon existing work, take the lead as needed, and take the team’s work further
Ability to quickly form relationships and perspectives with SOS staff. Do the same with existing and potential community partners
Excellent written and oral communication skills, and an ability to wade into all types of conversations
An ability to speak confidently about SOS in various settings
Strong social and political canny to assess opportunities and limits
Ability to easily collaborate with SOS colleagues and lead team-driven development practices
Experience with digital outreach and communication tools including social media
Passion for social justice and envisioning creative long-term solutions to homelessness
Affinity for SOS Richmond vision/philosophy: full partnership with the unhoused community
Personal attributes: transparency and accountability, perseverance, able to deal with ambiguity, compassionate, low drama, empathetic, resilient, a sense of humor
