A Simple Gesture is a nonprofit dedicated to ending food insecurity by revolutionizing how people donate food. Our Executive Director developed a simple, intuitive software platform that allows households to sign up and leave a bag of food right on their doorstep. From there, our volunteer drivers pick it up and deliver it directly to their local food pantry.
It’s truly the simplest gesture you can make: Fill a bag. Leave it outside. Feed your neighbors.
What makes our program uniquely powerful is that it’s entirely local. Every donated bag stays within the donor’s own community, supporting nearby families and strengthening local pantries. Unlike traditional food-bank systems, which often rely on distant warehouses, costly transportation, and complex redistribution, our model removes all inefficiencies.
By connecting neighbors directly to their local pantries, we eliminate unnecessary overhead and ensure that food reaches the people who need it most: quickly, efficiently, and sustainably.
We are hiring friendly, outgoing, people-loving individuals to join our Home Food Donation Program: You have to sign up donor households right at the entrance of local grocery stores, businesses and other busy locations. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on human interaction, feels confident talking to strangers, and wants flexible, meaningful work that makes a real difference for local families.
Position: Green Apron Ambassador
Pay: $25/hour
Status: Independent Contractor (1099)
Schedule: Choose your own hours
Must be able to get to outreach sites
What You’ll Do:
Stand outside a grocery store or business wearing our green apron.
Warmly APPROACH shoppers and initiate conversations
Explain our simple food-donation program using our script
Help people sign up through a QR code on their phone
Explain next steps
Occasionally check in with the store/business manager upon arrival
Represent A Simple Gesture with kindness, professionalism, and confidence
Who We’re Looking For:
This role requires the right personality.
You are someone who is:
Extremely friendly, warm, and approachable
Comfortable initiating conversations with strangers
Not shy or intimidated by public, high-traffic environments
Positive, upbeat, confident, and polite
Reliable, punctual, and professional
Able to get to different store locations using your own vehicle or whatever transportation you have
Open to training and able to follow a simple script
Comfortable with basic technology (Scanning a QR code and following steps in a registration process)
If talking to people energizes you this is perfect but If it drains you, this won’t be a good fit.
