ABOUT COMMUNITY MUSIC CENTER (CMC)

Community Music Center’s mission is to make high quality music accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, regardless of financial means. We’re committed to centering equity and inclusion in our programs and across all aspects of our organization. We are a nonprofit institution founded in 1921 with branches in the Mission District, Richmond Districts, and at partnership sites throughout San Francisco serving 3,300 students annually. Our expanded campus at our Mission District Branch, including a newly built Recital Hall, opened in January 2024.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Performance Hall Manager at Community Music Center will be a part of the Hall Management Team, working in support of the Registration and Operations teams. This position will be the on-site representative of CMC during events in the Concert and Recital Halls. You will be the first person welcoming renters onsite and will help ensure that renters have the best experience possible at CMC. Hall Managers are scheduled on an as-needed basis during CMC performances and Hall rentals, with a minimum four-hour shift.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Opening & Closing Campus

Open and close the campus, developing a deep knowledge of our building’s operations and systems (training will be provided).

Provide renters with access to equipment and facilities.

Operate the alarm systems and make sure that the campus is secure using key cards and keys. Set up and break down chairs and tables for events.

Operate CMC’s computer-controlled stage lighting system.

Communications

Receive information from and report to CMC Operations team concerning each rental, before and after each event.

Relay messages promptly to relevant parties in case of emergencies.

Welcome and speak directly with each renter about their specific needs and set up to ensure their event goes as smoothly as possible.

Continue to be in conversation with them and help them throughout their entire rental experience.

Stay in close contact with the CMC Receptionist when on site.

Equipment Management

Set up portable speakers, microphones and music stands.

Move amplifiers, drums and pianos (on casters) to optimal positions.

Administrative & Customer Service Tasks:

Assist with scheduling and room bookings, and communicate with CMC instructors to ensure the smooth operation of classes and events.

Create a welcoming, hospitable and positive atmosphere for each event.

Resolve issues or escalate them to the appropriate onsite staff or CMC Operations staff when necessary.

Collect payments or reference rental agreements when necessary.

Learn and enact CMC’s de-escalation procedure and first aid procedure.

Promotion and Marketing Assistance

Take pictures during the event and complete a report following each event.

PREFERRED SKILLS

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of music equipment and music event production

Ability to carry over 40 lbs

Positive attitude in a busy environment

Candidates fluent in both English and Spanish preferred

Working conditions: This is a part-time, exempt, in-person position. Performance Hall Managers are scheduled on an as needed basis, with a 4 hour minimum shift.

Compensation:

This is a part-time position with an hourly rate of $22.00
