Personal/Family Assistant — Marin County

We are two reasonably competent adults who, despite advanced degrees, professional success and fancy publications, cannot seem to remember that Friday is recycling day.

We’re a pediatrician and tech exec. We have two kids (4 & 6), a German Shepherd, and a house in Marin that generates logistics faster than we can process them. We need help.

What We're Looking For:

Someone who is kind, direct and effective.

Kind means: You actually like people. You're warm with our kids, patient with our dog, and generous with the contractors who show up late. You don't keep score. You assume good intent. Our favorite people in the world are courageously kind.

Direct means: You tell us when something's not working. You don't hint. You don't wait for us to notice. You say "hey, this system is broken" or "you forgot to sign the permission slip again" without making it weird.

Effective means: Things actually happen. You follow through without being reminded. When Plan A fails, you're already on Plan B. You have good judgment about "done" vs. "good enough" vs. “great” — and you know what matters when.

We take our work very seriously, but we don't take ourselves seriously. If you're the type who writes passive-aggressive notes on the fridge or likes making fun of the slightly weird guy on the corner, we're not your people. Life happens. If you're the type who just says the thing, we talk it through like adults and then we all move on with our lives, let’s chat.

The Actual Job

Day-to-day ops (60%): Calendars, school logistics, vet appointments, groceries, contractor wrangling, and the seventeen other things that fall through the cracks when two working parents are sprinting through life. You're the person who notices the cracks.

Medium-scale projects (40%): Birthday parties. Photography trips. Summer camp research. You own these end-to-end — we give you the "what," you figure out the "how."

The through-line: You see what needs to happen before we ask. You follow up so we don't have to. You make things actually happen, not just "get scheduled."

Requirements

≥5 years as an EA, family assistant, event planner, or similar (we need someone who's brought order to chaos before)

Good with kids and animals — you'll interact with both daily; enthusiasm preferred over mere tolerance

Proactive — you surface problems with solutions, not just problems

Detail-oriented — you're the person who remembers picture day

Comfortable with ambiguity — sometimes the ask is "make this better" and you figure out what "better" means

The Fine Print

Location: Marin County, in-person (this job is fundamentally non-remote)

Hours: 20/week, flexible on timing

Compensation: Competitive; we're not trying to underpay good people

How to Apply

Send us a short note with your resume: who you are, why this sounds like a fit, and a story about a time you turned someone else's chaos into calm.

Bonus points if your note is kind and direct.
